Milo is a pullover knit in an easy, dimensional multi-color pattern stitch.

Materials

3(4-4-4) Balls Berroco Pure Merino (50 grs), #8615 Boysenberry Jam (A),  4(5-5-6) balls #8613 Winter Chocolate (B),  5(6-7-7) balls # 8611 Pesto Genovese (C) and  4(5-5-6) balls # Blue Serge Suit (D)

Straight knitting needles, sizes 7 and 9 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE


Gauge

18 sts = 4”;  26 rows = 4” in Color Pat on size 9 needles

Note

Colors not in use should be carried loosely up side of work.  Twist colors often to prevent long loops.


Color Pattern (Worked over an even number of sts)

Row 1 (RS):  With B, * k1, p1, rep from * across.

Row 2:  With C, purl.

Row 3:  With A, knit.

Row 4:  With B, purl.

Row 5:  With D, * p1, k1, rep from * across.

Row 6:  With A, purl.

Row 7:  With C, purl.

Row 8:  With D, purl.

Rep these 8 rows for Color Pat.


Back

With smaller needles, using C, cast on 94(106-114-122) sts.

Ribbing:  Row 1 (RS):  K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across.  Rep Row 1 once more, end on RS.  Change to A and work even in ribbing as established until piece measures 3” from beg, end on WS, inc 1(0-0-1) st at each end of last row – 96(106-114-124) sts.  Change to larger needles and work even in Color Pat until piece measures 17” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 2(2-4-4) rows, then 2 sts at beg of the next 2(4-2-4) rows – 86(92-98-104) sts.  Dec 1 st each side every RS row 2(3-4-4) times – 82(86-90-96) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 8 1/2(9-9 1/2-10)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders:  Bind off 8(9-10-10) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 9(9-9-10) sts at beg of the next 4 rows.  Bind off remaining 30(32-34-36) sts for back neck.


Front

Work same as back until armholes measure 5(5 1/2-6-6 1/2)”, end on WS – 82(86-90-96) sts.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  Work 36(37-38-40) sts, join another ball of color being used and bind off center 10(12-14-16) sts, work to end.  Working both sides at once, bind off 4 sts at each neck edge once, 3 sts once, 2 sts once, then dec 1 st at each neck edge once – 26(27-28-30) sts each side.  Work even until armholes measure 8 1/2(9-9 1/2-10)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders:  Bind off 8(9-10-10) sts at each armhole edge once, then 9(9-9-10) sts twice.


Sleeves

With smaller needles, using C, cast on 46(46-50-50) sts.  Work in ribbing same as back for 3 rows, end on RS.  Change to A and work even in ribbing as established until sleeve measures 3” from beg, end on WS.  Change to larger needles and work in Color Pat, inc 1 st each side every 1 1/4(1 1/4-1 1/4-1)” 11(13-13-15) times, working incs in Color Pat as sts become available – 68(72-76-80) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 20” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Cap:  Bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 2 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, end on WS – 58(62-66-70) sts.

Dec Row (RS):  K1, k2 tog, work to last 3 sts, SSK, k1 – 56(60-64-68) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 9(10-12-13) times more, end on WS – 38(40-40-42) sts.  Bind off 2 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 3 sts at beg of the next 2 rows.  Bind off remaining 28(30-30-32) sts.


Finishing

Sew right shoulder seam.

Neckband:  With RS facing, using smaller needles and A, beg at left front shoulder, pick up and 74(78-82-86) sts.  Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as back for 1 1/4”, end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing.  Sew left shoulder and neckband seam.  Sew in sleeves.  Sew side and sleeve seams.
