6(7-8-9-10-10) Hanks Berroco Peruvia (100 grs), #7110 Naranja

Straight knitting needles, sizes 8 (5.00 mm) and 10 (6.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

29” Length circular knitting needles, sizes 8 (5.00 mm) and 9 (5.50 mm)

Optional:  One 1½” button


Gauge

17 sts = 4”;  26 rows = 4” in Pat St on larger needles

28 sts = 4”;  22 rows = 4” in k2, p2 ribbing on smaller needles

Pattern Stitch (Odd number of sts)

Row 1 (WS):  P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.

Row 2: K1, * bring yarn to front under needle, sl 1 purlwise, bring yarn to back OVER needle, k1, rep from * across.

Row 3:  P1, * k1 together with the yarn passed over needle, p1, rep from * across.

Row 4:  Knit.

Rep these 4 rows for Pat St.


Back

With smaller straight needles, cast on 118(134-146-162-174-190) sts.

Ribbing:  Row 1 (RS):  K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 4” from beg, end on WS.  Change to larger needles and k the next row, dec 45(53-57-63-67-75) sts across – 73(81-89-99-107-115) sts.  Work even in Pat St until piece measures 5½(5½-6-6-6½-6½)” from beg, end on WS.  Dec 1 st each side of next row, then every 1½” 3 times more – 65(73-81-91-99-107) sts.  Work even until piece measures 12(12-12½-12½-13-13)” from beg, end on WS.  Inc 1 st each side of next row, then every 3” once more – 69(77-85-95-103-111) sts.  Work even until piece measures 16(16-16½ -16½-17-17)” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 3(5-5-7-7-8) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 2(3-3-4-3-4) sts at beg of the following 2 rows – 59(61-69-73-83-87) sts.  Dec 1 st each side every RS row 4(5-7-7-9-9) times – 51(51-55-59-65-69) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 7½(8-8½-8½-9-9)” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders:  Bind off 3(3-5-5-6-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 4(4-4-5-6-7) sts at beg of the next 4 rows.  Bind off remaining 29 sts for back neck.


Left Front

With smaller straight needles, cast on 46(50-58-66-74-82) sts.  Work in ribbing same as back for 4”, end on WS.  Change to larger needles and k the next row, dec 19(17-21-25-29-33) sts across – 27(33-37-41-45-49) sts.  Work even in Pat St until piece measures 5½(5½-6-6-6½ -6½)” from beg, end on WS.  Dec 1 st at beg of next row, then at beg of RS rows every 1½” 3 times more – 23(29-33-37-41-45) sts.  Work even until piece measures 12(12-12½-12½-13-13)” from beg, end on WS.  Inc 1 st at beg of next RS row, then at same edge every 3” once more – 25(31-35-39-43-47) sts.  Work even until piece measures 16(16-16½-16½-17-17)” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armhole:  Bind off 3(5-5-7-7-8) sts at beg of the next RS row, then 2(3-3-4-3-4) sts at beg of the following RS row – 20(23-27-28-33-35) sts.  Dec 1 st at same edge every RS row 4(5-7-7-9-9) times.  AT THE SAME TIME, when armhole measures 1½(2-2½-2½-3-3)”, end on WS.  Mark beg of last row for beg of neck.

Shape Neck:  Continuing to work armhole decs if necessary, work to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1.  Dec 1 st at neck edge every ¾” 4(6-6-5-5-5) times more.  When all decs have been completed, work even on 11(11-13-15-18-20) sts until armhole measures 7½(8-8½-8½-9-9)”, end on WS.  Bind off 3(3-5-5-6-6) sts at armhole edge once, then 4(4-4-5-6-7) sts twice for shoulder.


Right Front

Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping.  Bind off for armhole on WS row.  Work neck decs at beg of RS rows as k1, SSK.  Bind off for shoulder on WS rows.


Sleeves

With smaller straight needles, cast on 62 sts.  Work in ribbing same as back for 8”, end on RS.  Change to larger needles and k the next row, dec 23 sts across – 39 sts.  Work in Pat St, inc 1 st each side every 2(2-1½-1½-1-¾)” 6(6-8-10-12-14) times – 51(51-55-59-63-67) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 22” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Cap:  Bind off 3(5-5-7-7-8) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 2(3-3-4-3-4) sts at beg of the following 2 rows – 41(35-39-37-43-43) sts.  Dec 1 st each side every 4th row 0(4-4-5-4-4) times, then every RS row 17(8-8-6-8-8) times, end on WS.  Bind off remaining 7(11-15-15-19-19) sts.


Finishing

Left Frontband:  With RS facing, using smaller straight needles, beg at neck marker, pick up and k106(110-118-118-126-126) sts along left front edge.  Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as back for 4”, end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing.

Right Frontband:  Beg at lower edge of right front, work same as Left Frontband for 2½”, end on WS.

If using optional button:  Buttonhole Row (RS):  Work to last 8 sts, bind off 2 sts, work to end.

Following Row:  Work in ribbing as established, cast on 2 sts over sts bound off on previous row.  With or without buttonhole, complete same as left frontband.  Sew shoulder seams.

Collar:  With RS facing, using smaller circular needle, beg at outer edge of right frontband, pick up and k24 sts across end of frontband, 42 sts along right front neck edge, 46 sts across back neck edge, 42 sts along left front neck edge, then 24 sts across end of left frontband – 178 sts.  Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as back for 3”, end on WS. Change to larger circular needle and work even until collar measures 7” from beg, end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing.  Sew in sleeves.  Sew side and sleeve seams, reversing seams over lower 4” of sleeves.  Fold back cuffs to RS.  Sew on button if desired.
