Basket Stitch (Multiple of 6)
Row 1 (RS): Knit.
Row 2: Purl.
Rows 3-6: * K3, p3, rep from * across.
Row 7 (RS): Knit.
Row 8: Purl.
Rows 9-12: * P3, k3, rep from * across.
Row 13 (RS): Knit.
Row 14: Purl.
Rows 15-18: Rep Rows 3-6.
Row 19 (RS): Knit.
Row 20: Purl.

Granite Stitch (Multiple of 2)
Row 1 (RS): * K1, p1, rep from * across.
Row 2: Knit.
Rep these 2 rows for Granite St.
Back
With smaller needles, cast on 90(102-114-126-138) sts.
Row 1 (RS): K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.
Row 2: P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 3” from beg, end on WS. Change to larger needles. ** Work even in Basket St for 20 rows. Work even in Granite St for 4”, end on WS. Knit 16 rows (8 Garter St ridges). Rep from ** for pattern. Work even following pattern until piece measures 17”, end on WS. Mark beg and end of last row for beg of armholes. Work even following pattern until armholes measure 9(9 1/2-10 1/4-10 3/4-11 1/2)” for men’s, [8 1/2(8 1/2-9 1/2-9 1/2-10 3/4)” for women’s], end on WS. Bind off all sts. Measure in 5(6-7-8-9)” from each side of bound-off edge and mark for back neck.
Front
Work same as for back until armholes measure 6(6 1/2-7 1/4-7 3/4-8 /2)” from beg for men’s, [5 1/2(5 1/2-6 1/2-6 1/2-7 3/4)” for women’s], end on WS – 90(102-114-126-138) sts.
Shape Neck: Next Row (RS): Working in pat as established, work 35(40-45-50-55) sts, join another hank of yarn and bind off center 20(22-24-26-28) sts, work to end. Working both sides at once, bind off 4 sts at each neck edge once, 3 sts once, 2 sts once, then dec 1 st at each neck edge once. Work even on 25(30-35-40-45) sts until armholes measure 9(9 1/2-10 1/4-10 3/4-11 1/2)” for men’s, [8 1/2(8 1/2-9 1/2-9 1/2-10 3/4)” for women’s], end on WS. Bind off all sts each side for shoulders. Sew left shoulder seam.
Neckband: With RS facing, using smaller needles, beg at right back shoulder, pick up and k40(42-44-46-48) sts across back neck edge, 15 sts along left front neck edge, 20(22-24-26-28) sts across front neck edge, then 15 sts along right front neck edge – 90(94-98-102-106) sts. Beg with Row 2, work even in ribbing same as for back for 1 1/2”, end on WS. Bind off all sts in ribbing. Sew right shoulder and neckband seam.
Men's Sleeve
With RS facing, using larger needles, pick up and k90(96-102-108-114) sts along armhole edge between markers. Purl 1 row, end on WS. Beg at ** of back, work even in pattern for 1”, end on WS. Still following pattern, dec 1 st each end of next row. Rep this dec every 3/4” 21(20-18-16-14) times more, then every 1/2” 0(2-5-8-11) times – 46(50-54-58-62) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 17” from beg, end on WS. Change to smaller needles and work in ribbing same as for back for 3”, end on WS. Bind off all sts in ribbing.
Women's Sleeve
With RS facing, using larger needles, pick up and k84(84-96-96-108) sts along armhole edge between markers. Purl 1 row, end on WS. Beg at ** of back, work even in pattern for 1”, end on WS. Still following pattern, dec 1 st each end of next row. Rep this dec every 3/4” 16(16-8-8-0) times, then every 1/2” 4(4-16-16-28) times – 42(42-46-46-50) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 15” from beg, end on WS. Change to smaller needles and work in ribbing same as for back for 3”, end on WS. Bind off all sts in ribbing.
Finishing
Steam piece with hot steam iron and a pressing cloth. Sew side and sleeve seams.
