2(3-3-3-3-4) Hanks Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine (100 grs), #1284 Prune Mix

Straight knitting needles, sizes 4 (3.50 mm) and 6 (4.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Crochet hook, size 3.25 mm (D-3)

3 Large hook and eyes

Optional:  1 Ball WENDY HAPPY (100 grs), #2507 Taurus (or any Berroco sock yarn)

Small bead for centers of flowers


Gauge

20 sts = 4”;  30 rows = 4” in St st on larger needles

Back

With larger needles, cast on 80(90-100-110-120-130) sts.  Work even in St st for 1”, end on RS.  Knit 1 row on WS for Garter ridge.  Work even in St st until piece measures 4(4-4 1/2-4 1/2-5-5)” from beg, end on WS.  Dec 1 st each side of next row, then every 2 1/4” twice more – 74(84-94-104-114-124) sts.  Work even until piece measures 11 1/2(11 1/2-12-12-12 1/2-12 1/2)” from beg, end on WS.  Inc 1 st each side of next row, then every 1 1/2” twice more – 80(90-100-110-120-130) sts.  Work even until piece measures 15 1/2(15 1/2-16-16-16 1/2-16 1/2)” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 5(5-6-8-10-10) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 70(80-88-94-100-110) sts.

Dec Row (RS):  K2, k2 tog, k to last 4 sts, SSK, k2 – 69(78-86-92-98-108) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 4(9-10-11-11-14) times more – 60(60-66-70-76-80) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 7 1/2(7 1/2-8-8 1/2-8 1/2-9)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders:  Bind off 4(4-5-5-6-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 3(3-4-5-6-7) sts at beg of the next 4 rows.  Bind off remaining 40 sts for back neck.


Left Front

With larger needles, cast on 38(43-48-53-58-63) sts.  Work even in St st for 1”, end on RS.  Knit 1 row on WS for Garter Ridge.  Work even in St st until piece measures 4(4-4 1/2- 4 1/2-5-5)” from beg, end on WS.  Dec 1 st at beg of next row, then at same edge every 2 1/4” twice more – 35(40-45-50-55-60) sts.  Work even until piece measures 11 1/2(11 1/2-12-12-12 1/2-12 1/2)” from beg, end on WS.  Inc 1 st at beg of the next row, then at same edge every 1 1/2” twice more – 39(43-48-53-58-63) sts.  Work even until piece measures 15 1/2(15 1/2-16-16-16 1/2-16 1/2)” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armhole:  Bind off 5(5-6-8-10-10) sts at beg of the next row – 33(38-42-45-48-53) sts.  Purl 1 row.

Dec Row (RS):  K2, k2 tog, k to end – 32(37-41-44-47-52) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 4(9-10-11-11-14) times more – 28(28-31-33-36-38) sts.  Work even until armhole measures 6 1/2(6 1/2-7-7 1/2-7 1/2-8)”, end on RS.

Shape Neck:  Bind off14 sts, purl to end – 14(14-17-19-22-24) sts.

Dec Row (RS):  K to last 3 sts, SSK, k1 – 13(13-16-18-21-23) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 3 times more.  AT THE SAME TIME, when armhole measures 7 1/2(7 1/2-8 1/2-8 1/2- 9)”, end on WS.  Bind off 4(4-5-5-6-6) sts at armhole edge once, then 3(3-4-5-6-7) sts twice for shoulder.


Right Front

Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping.  Work side decs and incs at end of RS rows.  Bind off for armhole on WS row.  Work armhole decs at end of RS rows as SSK, k2.  Bind off for neck on RS row.  Work neck decs at beg of RS rows as k1, k2 tog.  Bind off for shoulder on WS rows.


Sleeves

With straight needles, cast on 46(46-52-56-62-66) sts.  Work even in St st for 1”, end on RS.  Knit 1 row on WS for Garter ridge.  Work even in St st until sleeve measures 2” from beg, end on WS.  Inc 1 st each side of next row, then every 1 1/2” 6 times more – 60(60-66-70-76-80) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 13” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Cap:  Bind off 5(5-6-8-10-10) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 50(50-54-54-56-60) sts.  Work 0(0-2-2-2-2) rows even, end on WS.

Dec Row (RS):  K2, k2 tog, k to last 4 sts, SSK, k2 – 48(48-52-52-54-58) sts.  Rep this dec every 4th row 0(0-0-2-1-2) times more, then every RS row 18(18-17-13-15-13) times, end on WS.  Bind off remaining 12(12-18-22-22-28) sts.


Finishing

Sew shoulder seams.

Left Frontband:  With RS facing, using crochet hook, beg at left neck edge, work in sc along left front edge to Garter Ridge.  Turn.

Row 1:  Ch 1, dec 1 sc over first 2 sc’s, then work 1 sc in each sc to neck.  Turn.  Row 2:  Ch 1, sc in each sc to the last 2 sc’s, dec 1 sc over last 2 sc’s.  Rep these 2 rows until band measures 1”.  Fasten off.

Right Frontband:  Beg at Garter Ridge on right front, work to correspond to left frontband.

Neckband:  With RS facing, using smaller needles, beg at outer edge of right frontband, pick up and k100 sts around entire neck edge.  Knit 1 row on WS for Garter Ridge.

Row 2 (RS):   K1, SSK, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 98 sts.  Purl 1 row.  Rep these 2 rows until neckband measures 1 1/2”, end on WS.   Bind off.

Sew in sleeves.  Sew side and sleeve seams, reversing seams over 1” below Garter ridges and allowing edges to roll back.  Sew first set of hook and eyes to frontbands 10” down from neck.  Sew the other 3 sets 1” apart down frontbands.

Optional:  For flowers, with crochet hook and sock yarn, make a chain any length you would like.  The longer the chain, the bigger the flower.

Row 1:  Sc in 2nd ch from hook, skip 1 ch, * work 5 dc’s in next ch, skip 1 ch, sc in next ch, rep from * across.  Fasten off.  Coil piece from center outwards into flower shape and sew base chain tog.  Sew multiple beads to center as shown in photo.  Make several different sizes of flowers, then sew to sweater fronts as shown.  Note:  Due to the variation in color on the sock yarn, each flower will look slightly different.
