1 Ball Berroco Sox Metallic (100 grs), #1361 Acai

1 Set (4) double pointed knitting needles, size 2 (2.75 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Crochet hook, size 3.00 mm (D)

Small amount scrap yarn in a different color

Tapestry needle

Small amount polyester stuffing

30 sts = 4”;  40 rnds = 4” in St st

Center (Make 2)

With crochet hook and scrap yarn, chain 55 and fasten off loosely.  With dpn’s and Acai, pick up and k55 sts in chain, working through 1 strand of each ch.  Divide sts on 3 needles and join, being careful not to twist sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Knit 1 rnd.

Dec Rnd 1:  * K2 tog, k7, SSK, rep from * 4 times more – 45 sts.  Knit 1 rnd.

Dec Rnd 2:  * K2 tog, k5, SSK, rep from * 4 times more – 35 sts.  Knit 1 rnd.  Continue to dec 10 sts in this manner every other rnd, having 2 less sts between decs each time until 5 sts remain.  Break off yarn leaving an 8” long end.  Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needles.  Pull up tightly and secure.

First Leg:  With RS facing, carefully pull out scrap yarn at cast-on edge of one center over first 11 sts, slipping those sts onto one dpn; cast on 3 sts; pull out scrap yarn along cast-on edge of second center over first 11 sts, slipping sts onto another dpn;  cast on 3 sts – 28 sts.  Divide sts on 3 dpn’s and join.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Knit 5 rnds.

Dec Rnd 1:  * K2 tog, k5, rep from * around – 24 sts.  Knit 5 rnds.

Dec Rnd 2:  * K2 tog, k4, rep from * around – 20 sts.  Knit 5 rnds.  Continue to dec 4 sts in this manner on next rnd, then every 6th rnd 3 times more – 4 sts.  Break off yarn leaving an 8” long end.  Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needles. Pull up tightly and secure.

Second Leg:  With RS facing, carefully pull out scrap yarn at cast-on edge of one center over the next 11 sts, slipping those sts onto one dpn;  cast on 3 sts; pull out scrap yarn along cast-on edge of second center of next 11 sts, slipping sts onto another dpn; pick up and k3 sts in cast-on sts of first leg – 28 sts.  Complete same as first leg.

Third and Fourth Legs:  Work same as second leg, picking up sts in cast-on sts of previous leg.  Stuff star with polyester filling.

Fifth Leg:  Work same as second leg, picking up 3 sts in cast-on sts of each leg on both sides.  Stuff final leg before pulling up sts at end, then finish same as previous legs.
