Materials

Berroco Suede Deluxe (50 grs), 7(8-9-10-11-12) balls #3908 Wrangler Gold.

Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 and 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

Crochet hook, size 4.50 mm (G).


Gauge

19 sts = 4”;  28 rows = 4” in St st on size 8 needles.

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.


Back

With smaller needles, cast on 79(83-89-93-103-113) sts.

Row 1 (RS):  K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows once more, end on WS.  Change to larger needles and work even in St st until piece measures 3” from beg, end on WS.

Dec Row (RS):  K1, SSK, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 77(81-87-91-101-111) sts.  Rep this dec every 1 1/4” 4 times more – 69(73-79-83-93-103) sts.  Work even until piece measures 10” from beg, end on WS.

Inc row (RS):  K1, M1k, k to last st, M1k, k1 – 71(75-81-85-95-105) sts.  Rep this inc every 1 1/4” 4 times more – 79(83-89-93-103-113) sts.  Work even until piece measures 15 1/2” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 7 sts at beg of the next 2 rows –65(69-75-79-89-99) sts.

Dec Row 1 (RS):  K2, K2SP, k to last 5 sts, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, k2 – 61(65-71-75-85-95) sts.  Purl 1 row.  Rep these 2 rows 3(3-3-3-6-11) times more, end on WS – 49(53-59-63-61-51) sts.

Dec Row 2 (RS):  K2, KSP, k to last 4 sts, SSK, k2 – 47(51-57-61-59-49) sts.  Purl 1 row.  Rep these 2 rows 7(9-11-13-11-6) times more, end on WS – 33(33-35-35-37-37) sts.  Bind off all sts for back neck.


Front

Work same as for back until piece measures 15 1/2” from beg, end on WS – 79(83-89-93-103-113) sts.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 7 sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 65(69-75-79-89-99) sts.

For Sizes 1X and 2X ONLY:  Dec Row 1 (RS):  K2, K2SP, k to last 5 sts, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, k2 – 85(95) sts.  Purl 1 row.  Rep these 2 rows 2(7) times more, end on WS – 77(67) sts.

For ALL Sizes:  Dec Row 2 (RS):  K2, KSP, k to last 4 sts, SSK, k2 – 63(67-73-77-75-65) sts.  Purl 1 row.  Rep these 2 rows 4(6-8-10-8-3) times more, end on WS – 55(55-57-57-59-59) sts.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  K2, KSP, k11, sl remaining 40(40-42-42-44-44) sts onto holder for front neck and right front – 14 sts.  Purl 1 row.

Left Front:  Dec Row (RS):  K2, KSP, k3, SSK, k1, k2 tog, yo, k2 – 12 sts.  Purl 1 row.  Rep these 2 rows 5 times more, end on WS – 2 sts.  K2 tog, then fasten off last st.  Note:  As you decrease, there will not be enough sts to complete the entire Dec Row.  Keep 7 sts at neck edge in pat as established as long as possible, working armhole decs closer to armhole edge.  When there are not enough sts to keep the 7 sts at neck in pat as established, work all sts in St st and keep decreasing.

Right Front:  With RS facing, sl 40(40-42-42-44-44) sts from holder onto larger needle.  Join yarn and bind off center 25(25-27-27-29-29) sts for front neck, k to last 4 sts, SSK, k2 – 14 sts.  Purl 1 row.

Dec Row (RS):  K2, yo, k2 tog, k1, KSP, k3, SSK, k2 – 12 sts.  Purl 1 row.  Rep these 2 rows 5 times more, end on WS – 2 sts.  K2 tog, then fasten off last st.


Finishing

Steam pieces with hot steam iron and a pressing cloth.

Armhole/Shoulder Strap (Make 2):  With smaller needles, cast on 9 sts.  Work in ribbing same as for back until strap, when slightly stretched reaches from side edge of front along armhole edge to last st fastened off, end on WS.  Place marker on inner edge of strap.  Work even until strap measures 7” above marker, end on WS.  Place 2nd marker on inner edge of strap. Work even until section of strap after last marker reaches from last st fastened off along armhole edge of back to side edge, end on WS.  Bind off all sts in ribbing.  Sew inner edge of strap to front and back armholes, leaving 7” section between markers free for shoulder strap.  Repeat for 2nd strap.  Sew side seams, sewing cast-on and bound-off edges of straps tog.

Neck Edging:  With RS facing, using crochet hook, beg at center back neck, work in Reverse sc around entire neck edge and inner edges of straps.  Join with a sl st in 1st sc.  Fasten off.
