Back
With smaller needles, cast on 86(98-110-122-134) sts.
Ribbing: Row 1 (RS): K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.
Row 2: P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 7” from beg, end on RS. Change to larger straight needles and p the next row, dec 26(28-30-32-34) sts across – 60(70-80-90-100) sts. Work in St st, inc 1 st each side every 3/4” 10 times – 80(90-100-110-120) sts. Work even until piece measures 15” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Raglan Armholes: Bind off 3(4-6-8-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 74(82-88-94-102) sts.
For Sizes Medium, Large and X-Large ONLY: Dec Row 1 (RS): K1, K2SP, k to last 4 sts, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, k1 – 84(90-98) sts. Rep this dec every RS row 0(1-3) times more, end on WS – 84(86-86) sts.
For ALL sizes: Dec Row 2 (RS): K1, KSP, k to last 3 sts, SSK, k1 – 72(80-82-84-84) sts. Rep this dec every RS row 17(25-26-27-27) times more, then every 4th row 4(0-0-0-0) times, end on WS. Bind off remaining 30 sts.
Left Front
With smaller needles, cast on 38(42-50-54-62) sts. Work in ribbing same as back for 7”, end on RS. Change to larger straight needles and p the next row, dec 12(12-14-14-16) sts across – 26(30-36-40-46) sts. Work in St st, inc 1 st at beg of RS rows every 3/4” 8 times – 34(38-44-48-54) sts. Work even until piece measures 13 1/2” from beg, end on WS. Mark beg of last row for beg of neck.
Shape Neck: Dec Row (RS): K to last 2 sts, k2 tog – 33(37-43-47-53) sts. Rep this dec every 6th row 8(4-6-0-3) times, then every 8th row 1(4-3-8-6) times. AT THE SAME TIME, continue to inc 1 st at beg of RS rows on next row, then every 3/4” once more (a total of 10 incs at beg of RS rows). When piece measures 15” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Raglan Armhole: Continuing to work neck decs, bind off 3(4-6-8-9) sts at beg of the next row. Work 1 row even. Continue to work neck decs while you are working armhole decs.
For sizes Small, Medium, Large and X-Large ONLY: Dec Row 1 (RS): K1, K2SP, work to end. Rep this dec every RS row 2(3-5-7) times more, end on WS.
For ALL sizes: Dec Row 2 (RS): K1, KSP, work to end. Rep this dec every RS row 20(19-20-19-19) times more, then every 4th row 1(0-0-0-0) time, end on WS. When all armhole and neck decs have been completed, fasten off last st.
Right Front
Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping. Work side incs at end of RS rows. Work neck decs at beg of RS rows as SSK, k to end. Bind off for armhole on WS. Work armhole decs at end of RS rows as sl 1, k2 tog, psso instead of K2SP and as SSK instead of KSP.
Left Sleeve
With smaller needles, cast on 62 sts. Work in ribbing same as back for 6”, end on RS. Change to larger straight needles and p the next row, dec 22 sts across – 40 sts. Work in St st, inc 1 st each side every 1(1-3/4-3/4-1/2)” 10(10-13-15-18) times – 60(60-66-70-76) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 18” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Raglan Cap: Bind off 3(4-6-8-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 54(52-54-54-58) sts.
Note: One edge of the sleeve cap is longer than the other (see schematic). This means that the decs at each side are worked differently and you will have to keep track of them separately. Please read through this entire section before starting to knit.
Dec Row (RS): K1, KSP, k to last 3 sts, SSK, k1 – 52(50-52-52-56) sts. Working incs in this manner (k1, KSP at beg of RS rows and SSK, k1 at end of RS rows), dec 1 st at beg of RS rows every RS row 7(5-5-3-5) times more, then every 4th row 9(10-11-13-13) times. AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st at end of RS rows every RS row 10(8-8-7-9) times more, then every 4th row 6(7-8-9-9) times. When all decs at end of RS rows have been completed, continue to work decs at beg of RS rows and AT THE SAME TIME, bind off 5 sts at beg of every WS row 4 times.
Right Sleeve
Work to correspond to left sleeve reversing cap shaping. Work decs given for beg of RS rows at end of RS rows and decs given for end of RS rows at beg of RS rows. When all decs and beg of RS rows have been completed, continue to work decs at end of RS rows and AT THE SAME TIME, bind off 5 sts at beg of every RS row 4 times.
Finishing
Left Frontband: With RS facing, using smaller needles, beg at neck marker, pick up and k90 sts along left front edge. Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as back for 1 1/2”, end on WS. Bind off in ribbing.
Right Frontband: With RS facing, using smaller needles, beg at lower left front edge, pick up and k90 sts along right front edge to neck marker. Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as back for 3/4”, end on WS.
Buttonhole Row (RS): Work 4 sts, bind off 2 sts, * work until there are 18 sts on RH needle after bound-off sts, bind off 2 sts, rep from * 3 times more, work to end.
Next Row (WS): Work in ribbing as established, cast on 2 sts over each pair of sts bound off on previous row. Work even in ribbing until band measures 1 1/2”, end on WS. Bind off in ribbing. Sew raglan sleeve caps to raglan armholes. Sew side and sleeve seams.
Left Collar: With circular needle, cast on 65(65-68-71-74) sts. Work 4 rows in St st, then 6 rows in Reverse St st, end on WS.
Short Rows: Row 1 (RS): K59(59-62-65-68), turn.
Row 2: Sl 1, p to end.
Row 3 (Inc Row): K9, M1k, place marker, k5, place marker, M1k, k36(36-39-42-45), M1k, place marker, k5, place marker, M1k, k6, turn.
Row 4: Sl 1, p to end – 69(69-72-75-78) sts.
Row 5: Knit.
Row 6: Purl. Work 6 rows in Reverse St st.
Short Rows: Row 1 (RS): K63(63-66-69-72), turn.
Row 2: Sl 1, p to end.
Row 3 (Inc Row): K to marker, M1k, sl marker, k5, sl marker, M1k, k to next marker, M1k, sl marker, k5, sl marker, M1k, k6, turn.
Row 4: Sl 1, p to end – 73(73-76-79-82) sts.
Row 5: Knit.
Row 6: Purl. Work 6 rows in Reverse St st. Continue to work in this manner alternating Short Rows for 6 rows, then 6 rows Reverse St st 3 times more – 85(85-88-91-94) sts. On Row 1 of Short Rows, work 4 more sts each time. On Row 3, inc 1 st before and after each set of markers (4 sts inc’d on each row). When there are a total of 6 bands of Reverse St st worked, end on WS. Bind off.
Right Collar: Work to correspond to left collar reversing shaping. For Short Row bands, work as follows:
Row 1 (RS): Knit.
Row 2: P to last 6 sts, turn.
Row 3: Sl 1, k to end.
Row 4 (Inc Row): P9, M1p, place marker, p5, place marker, M1p, p36(36-39-42-45), M1p, place marker, p5, place marker, M1p, p6, turn.
Row 5: Sl 1, k to end.
Row 6: Purl. Work 6 rows in Reverse St st. Complete to correspond to left collar, reversing shaping in this manner. Sew longer side edges of collar sections tog. Sew cast-on edge of collar to neck edge with seam at center back. Gather short side edges of collar slightly and sew to side edge of frontbands at front neck. Sew on buttons opposite buttonholes.
