Hat

With circular needle, cast on 70 sts.  Join, being careful not to twist sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in St st (k EVERY rnd) until piece measures 4½” from beg.

Inc Rnd 1:  * K14, M1k, rep from * around – 75 sts.  Knit 5 rnds.

Inc Rnd 2:  * K15, M1k, rep from * around – 80 sts.  Knit 5 rnds.

Inc Rnd 3:  * K16, M1k, rep from * around – 85 sts.  Knit 5 rnds.

Inc Rnd 4:  * K17, M1k, rep from * around – 90 sts.  Knit 5 rnds.

Note:  As you decrease, when there are to few sts to fit comfortably on circular needle, change to dpn’s, dividing sts onto 3 needles.

Shape Top:  Dec Rnd 1:  * K7, k2 tog, rep from * around – 80 sts.  Knit 1 rnd.

Dec Rnd 2:  * K6, k2 tog, rep from * around – 70 sts.  Knit 1 rnd.

Dec Rnd 3:  * K5, k2 tog, rep from * around – 60 sts.  Knit 1 rnd.

Dec Rnd 4:  * K4, k2 tog, rep from * around – 50 sts.  Knit 1 rnd.

Dec Rnd 5:  * K3, k2 tog, rep from * around – 40 sts. Knit 1 rnd.

Dec Rnd 6:  * K2, k2 tog, rep from * around – 30 sts.  Knit 1 rnd.

Dec Rnd 7:  * K1, k2 tog, rep from * around – 20 sts.  Knit 1 rnd.

Dec Rnd 8:  * K2 tog, rep from * around – 10 sts.
