Gauge

14 sts = 4”; 20 rows = 4” in St st on larger needles

Note:  BOTH st and row gauge are extremely important to assure that your garment will measure correctly.

 

Note

Back, left front and sleeves are worked from the bottom up.  Right front is worked sideways from right side seam to center front.  Pocket is worked sideways from left side seam to center front.  All lower bands and sleeve cuffs are picked up and worked down so that all bands end with bound-off edge.

 

Back

With larger needles, using B, cast on 58(64-72-78-86-92) sts.  Work even in St st for 11½(11½- 12-12-12½- 12½)”, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 3(3-4-4-5-5) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 2 sts at beg of the following 2 rows – 48(54-60-66-72-78) sts.  Dec 1 st each side every RS row 3(4-5-7-8-9) times – 42(46-50-52-56-60) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 8(8-8½- 8½- 9-9½)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders:  Bind off 3(5-5-6-6-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 4(4-5-5-6-7) sts at beg of the next 4 rows.  Bind off remaining 20 sts for back neck.

Lower Band:  With RS facing, using smaller needles and B, pick up and k77(87-95-105-115-125) sts across cast-on edge.

Ribbing:  Row 1 (WS):  P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.

Row 2 (RS):  K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until band measures 1½", end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing.

 

Left Front

With larger needles, using A, cast on 26(30-34-36-40-44) sts.  Work even in St st for 11½(11½- 12-12-12½- 12½)”, end on WS.

Shape Armhole:  Bind off 3(3-4-4-5-5) sts at beg of the next RS row, then 2 sts at beg of the following RS row – 21(25-28-30-33-37) sts.  Dec 1 st at beg of the next 3(4-5-7-8-9) RS rows – 18(21-23-23-25-28) sts.  Work even until armhole measures 6½(6½- 7-7-7½- 8)”, end on RS.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (WS):  Bind off 3(4-4-3-3-4) sts, p to end – 15(17-19-20-22-24) sts.  Dec 1 st at neck edge every RS row 4 times – 11(13-15-16-18-20) sts.  When armhole measures 8(8-8½- 8½- 9-9½)”, end on WS.  Bind off 3(5-5-6-6-6) sts at armhole edge once, then 4(4-5-5-6-7) sts twice for shoulder.

Lower Band:  With RS facing, using smaller needles and B, pick up and k35(39-45-49-53-59) sts along cast-on edge.  Work same as lower band of back.

 

Right Front

With larger needles, using C, cast on 41(41-43-43-45-45) sts (this is the right side edge).  Work even in St st for 5 rows, end on RS.  Cast on 2 sts at beg of the next 1(1-1-2-3-3) WS rows, then inc 1 st at beg of the next 4(5-6-7-7-8) WS rows, end on RS – 47(48-51-54-58-59) sts.  Cast on 22(21-22-19-19-19) sts at beg of the next WS row – 69(69-73-73-77-78) sts.  Mark beg of last row for beg of shoulder.  Work even for 3 rows, end on RS.  Inc 1 st at beg of the next RS row, then at beg of every other RS row twice more – 72(72-76-76-80-81) sts.  Work even until shoulder measures 3(3½- 4-4½- 5-5½)” above marker, end on RS.

Shape Neck:  Bind off 5 sts at beg of the next WS row, then dec 1 st at neck edge EVERY row 4 times – 61(61-65-65-71-72) sts.  Work even until piece measures 7¼(8¼- 9¼- 10¼- 11¼- 12¼)” from cast-on edge, end on WS.  Bind off (this is the front edge).

Lower Band:  With RS facing, using smaller needles and B, pick up and k35(39-45-49-53-59) sts along lower edge (this is the right edge as you were knitting the right front).  Complete same as lower band of left front.

 

Sleeves

With larger needles, using B, cast on 32 sts.  Work even in St st for 1”, end on WS.  Inc 1 st each side on next row, then every 3¼(2¼-1½-1½-1¼-1)” 4(6-8-9-11-13) times more – 42(46-50-52-56-60) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 15 ½" from beg, end on WS.

Shape Cap:  Bind off 3(3-4-4-5-5) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 2 sts at beg of the following 2 rows – 32(36-38-40-42-46) sts.  Dec 1 st each side every RS row 11(11-12-12-12-13) times, end on WS – 10(14-14-16-18-20) sts.  Bind off 1(3-3-4-3-4) sts at beg of the next 2 rows.  Bind off remaining 8(8-8-8-12-12) sts.

Cuff:  With RS facing, using smaller needles and B, pick up and k43 sts along cast-on edge.  Complete same as lower band of back.

 

Finishing

Sew shoulder seams.  Sew in sleeves.  Sew lower band, side and sleeve seams.

Neckband:  With RS facing, using smaller needles and B, beg at right front edge, pick up and k15 sts along right front neck edge, 31 sts across back neck edge, then 15 sts along left front neck edge – 61 sts.  Work in ribbing same as back lower band for 2½", end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing.

Left Frontband:  With RS facing, using smaller needles and B, beg at top of collar, pick up and k111(111-115-115-119-121) sts along left front edge.  Work in ribbing same as back lower band for 2½", end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing.

Right Frontband:  Beg at bound-off edge of right front lower band, work same as left frontband for 1¼", end on WS.

Buttonhole Row (RS):  Work 7(7-6-6-5-6) sts, k2 tog, yo, * work until there are 14(14-15-15-16-16) sts on RH needle after yo, k2 tog, yo, rep from * 5 times more, work to end.  Complete same as left frontband.  Sew on buttons.

Pocket:  With larger needles, using C, cast on 14 sts.  Work even in St st for 4”, end on WS.  Bind off.  Pin pocket to left front (pocket is worked sideways) with cast-on edge 1½(2-2½ - 3-3½- 4)” in from side seam and side edge of pocket 2 ½" up from lower edge of left front.  Sew in place.
