Materials

Berroco Ultra Alpaca (100 grs), 5(6-7-7-8-9) hanks #6201.

Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 and 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

29” Length circular knitting needle, size 6.

Cable needle (cn).

Three 1 1/4” buttons.


Gauge

20 sts = 4”;  26 rows = 4” in St st on size 8 needles.

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.


Back

With smaller straight needles, cast on 85(93-103-115-127-137) sts.

Row 1 (RS):  K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 3” from beg, end on WS.  Change to larger needles.  P the next row, dec 9(11-13-15-17-17) sts evenly spaced across – 76(82-90-100-110-120) sts.  P 2 rows more, end on RS.

Next Row (WS):  P1, * yo, p2 tog, rep from * to last st, end p1.  P 4 rows, end on WS.

Establish Chart B:  Row 1 (RS):  K2(5-9-14-19-24), place marker, work Row 1 of Chart B across 72 sts, place marker, k2(5-9-14-19-24) sts.

Row 2:  P to 1st marker, work Row 2 of Chart B to next marker, p to end.  Work even in pat as established until Chart B has been completed, end on WS.  P 3 rows, end on RS.

Next Row (WS):  P1, * yo, p2 tog, rep from * to last st, end p1.  P 4 rows, dec 1 st at end of last row – 75(81-89-99-109-119) sts.

Establish Chart C:   Work all sts in Chart C following directions for working chart.  Inc 1 st each side every 1/2” 3(5-6-6-6-6) times, working incs into charted pat as sts become available – 81(91-101-111-121-131) sts.  Work even until piece measures 11” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 2(3-4-4-5-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 77(85-93-103-111-119) sts.  Note:  When working armhole decs over yo section of chart, if you don’t have enough sts to work the entire yo, SSK OR k2 tog, yo, work these sts in St st.  Dec 1 st at each armhole edge every RS row 3(5-6-9-10-12) times – 71(75-81-85-91-95) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 7 1/2(7 1/2-8-8 1/2-8 1/2-9)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders and Neck:  Bind off 5(5-6-8-9-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 5(6-7-7-8-9) sts at beg of the next 4 rows.  Bind off remaining 41 sts for back neck.


Left Front

With smaller straight needles, cast on 39(41-47-53-59-65) sts.  Work even in ribbing same as for back for 3”, end on WS.  Change to larger needles.  P the next row, dec 5(5-5-7-7-9) sts evenly spaced across – 34(36-42-46-52-56) sts.  P 2 rows more.

Next Row (WS):  P1, * yo, p2 tog, rep from * to last st, end p1.  P 4 rows, end on WS.

Establish Chart B:  Row 1 (RS):  K5(6-9-11-14-16), place marker, work Row 1 of Chart B over 24 sts, place marker, k5(6-9-11-14-16).

Row 2:  P to 1st marker, work Row 2 of Chart B to last marker, p to end.  Work even in pat as established until Chart B has been completed, end on WS.  P 3 rows, end on RS.

Next Row (WS):  P1, * yo, p2 tog, rep from * to last st, end p1.  P 4 rows, dec 1 st at end of last row – 33(35-41-45-51-55) sts.

Establish Chart C:  Work all sts in Chart C following directions for working chart. 

Shape V-Neck:  Next Row (RS):  Work to last 2 sts, dec 1 st – 32(35-40-44-50-54) sts.  Rep this dec every  1/2” 15 times more.  AT THE SAME TIME, inc 1 st at beg of RS rows every  1/2” 3(6-5-6-5-6) times, working incs into charted pat as sts become available.  When piece measures 11” from beg, end on WS.  Shape armhole same as for back.  When all armhole and neck decs have been completed, work even on 15(17-20-22-25-27) sts until armhole measures 7 1/2(7 1/2-8-8 1/2-8 1/2-9)”, end on WS.  Bind off 5(5-6-8-9-9) sts at armhole edge once, then 5(6-7-7-8-9) sts twice for shoulder.


Right Front

Work to correspond to left front, reversing placement of charts and all shaping.


Sleeves

With smaller straight needles, cast on 53 sts.  Work even in ribbing same as for back for 2”, end on WS, dec 4 sts evenly spaced across last row – 49 sts.  Change to larger needles.

Establish Chart C:  Work all sts in Chart C following directions for working chart.  Inc 1 st each side every 2 1/2” 5(2-0-0-0-0) times, every 2” 0(4-0-0-0-0) times, every 1 1/2” 0(0-8-4-0-0) times, every 1” 0(0-1-7-13-10) times, then every  1/2” 0(0-0-0-0-6) times, working incs into charted pat as sts become available – 59(61-67-71-75-81) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 15 1/2” from beg, end on WS.  P the next row, inc 9(14-14-16-17-17) sts evenly spaced across – 68(75-81-87-92-98) sts.  P 2 more rows, end on RS.

Next Row (WS):  P1, * yo, p2 tog, rep from * across.  P 2 rows, end on WS.

Establish Chart A:  Row 1 (RS):  P7(2-5-8-2-5), place marker, work Row 1 of Chart A over 54(71-71-71-88-88) sts, place marker, p7(2-5-8-2-5).

Row 2:  K to 1st marker, work Row 2 of Chart A to last marker, k to end.  Work even in pat as established until sleeve measures 17 1/2” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Cap:  Bind off 2(3-4-4-5-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 64(69-73-79-82-86) sts.  Dec 1 st each side every RS row 10(14-14-14-16-14) times, then EVERY row 12(10-10-10-9-10) times, end on WS.  Bind off remaining 20(21-25-31-32-38) sts.


Finishing

Steam pieces with hot steam iron and a pressing cloth.  Sew shoulder seams.

Left Front/Neckband:  With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at center back neck, pick up and k22 sts along back neck edge to left shoulder seam, 82(82-84-86-86-88) sts along left front neck edge, then 53 sts along left front edge – 157(157-159-161-161-163) sts.  Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as for back for 1 1/2”, end on WS.  Bind off all sts in ribbing.  Mark position of 3 buttons along left front/neckband, the 1st in center of lower ribbing, the last at yo section just below start of V-Neck and the other spaced evenly between.

Right Front/Neckband:  With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at lower right front edge, pick up and k53 sts along right front edge to beg of neck shaping, 82(82-84-86-86-88) sts along right front neck edge, then 22 sts along back neck edge – 157(157-159-161-161-163) sts.  Work same as for left front/neckband for 3/4”, end on WS.

Next (buttonhole) Row:  Work in ribbing to 1st marker, * yo, work 2 sts tog, work to next marker, rep from * twice more, work in ribbing to end.  Complete same as for left front/neckband.  Sew side edges of neckband tog at center back neck.  Sew in sleeves.  Sew side and sleeve seams, matching pattern sts.  Sew on buttons.

For all sizes:  Beg at A, work to C, rep between A and C, end at B.

Chart B

For all sizes:  Beg at A, work to B, rep between A and B.

Note:  If your size starts or ends with a k2 tog, yo or a yo, SSK, work these sts in St st.


Back

For size X-Small:  Work between F’s.

For size Small:  Work between E’s.

For size Medium:  Work between D’s.

For size Large:  Work between C’s.

For size 1X:  Work between B’s.

For size 2X:  Work between A’s.


Left Front

For size X-Small:  Work between F and H.

For size Small:  Work between E and G.

For size Medium:  Work between D and I.

For size X-Small:  Work between H and F.
