The interplay of two colors and geometric construction makes the Hexagon Stocking a fun new way to welcome Father Christmas.
Finished Size
Approximately 14” around x 21” long to tip of toe
Materials
1 Ball each Berroco Comfort (100 grs), #9793 Boysenberry Heather (A) and #9745 Filbert (B)
Straight knitting needles, size 8 (5.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
1 Set (4) double pointed knitting needles, size 8 (5.00 mm)

Hexagon #1 – 1 on diagram (Make 6)
With straight needles, using A, cast on 68 sts.
Row 1 (RS): Knit.
Row 2: Knit.
Row 3: K1, * k2 tog, k7, SSK, rep from * 5 times more, end k1 – 56 sts.
Row 4: Knit. Change to B.
Row 5: Knit.
Row 6: Purl. Join A.
Row 7: With B, k1, * with B, k2 tog, with A, k1, (with B, k1, with A, k1) twice, with B, SSK, rep from * 5 times more, end with B, k1 – 44 sts.
Row 8: With B, knit.
Row 9: With B, k1, * k2 tog, k3, SSK, rep from * 5 times more, end k1 – 32 sts. Change to A.
Rows 10, 11 and 12: With A, purl. Join B.
Row 13: With A, k1, * with A, k2 tog, with B, k1, with A, SSK, rep from * 5 times more, end with A, k1 – 20 sts. Fasten off B.
Row 14: With A, purl.
Row 15: Knit.
Row 16: P1, (p3 tog) 6 times, p1 – 8 sts. Break off yarn leaving a 12” long end. Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needle. Pull up tightly and secure. Sew seam, sewing through 1 full stitch on each edge.
Half Hexagon #2 – 2 on diagram (Make 2)
With straight needles, using A, cast on 35 sts.
Row 1 (RS): Knit.
Row 2: Knit.
Row 3: K1, * k2 tog, k7, SSK, rep from * twice more, end k1 – 29 sts.
Row 4: Knit. Change to B.
Row 5: Knit.
Row 6: Purl. Join A.
Row 7: With B, k1, * with B, k2 tog, with A, k1, (with B, k1, with A, k1) twice, with B, SSK, rep from * twice more, end with B, k1 – 23 sts.
Row 8: With B, knit.
Row 9: With B, k1, * k2 tog, k3, SSK, rep from * twice more, end k1 – 17 sts. Change to A.
Rows 10, 11 and 12: With A, purl. Join B.
Row 13: With A, k1, * with A, k2 tog, with B, k1, with A, SSK, rep from * twice more, end with A, k1 – 11 sts. Fasten off B.
Row 14: With A, purl.
Row 15: Knit.
Row 16: P1, (p3 tog) 3 times, p1 – 5 sts. Break off yarn leaving a 6” long end. Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needle. Pull up tightly and secure. Fasten off.

Row 8: With A, knit.

Row 4: Knit. Change to A.
Row 5: Knit.
Row 6: Purl. Join B.
Row 7: With A, k1, * with A, k2 tog, with B, k1, (with A, k1, with B, k1) twice, with A, SSK, rep from * twice more, end with A, k1 – 23 sts.
Row 8: With A, knit.
Row 9: With A, k1, * k2 tog, k3, SSK, rep from * twice more, end k1 – 17 sts. Change to B.
Rows 10, 11 and 12: With A, purl. Join A.
Row 13: With B, k1, * with B, k2 tog, with A, k1, with B, SSK, rep from * twice more, end with B, k1 – 11 sts. Fasten off A.
Row 14: With B, purl.

Heel Pentagon – H on diagram (Make 1)
With straight needles, using B, cast on 57 sts.
Row 1 (RS): Knit.
Row 2: Knit.
Row 3: K1, * k2 tog, k7, SSK, rep from * 4 times more, end k1 – 47 sts.
Row 4: Knit. Change to A.
Row 5: Knit.
Row 6: Purl. Join B.
Row 7: With A, k1, * with A, k2 tog, with B, k1, (with A, k1, with B, k1) twice, with A, SSK, rep from * 4 times more, end with A, k1 – 37 sts.
Row 8: With A, knit.
Row 9: With A, k1, * k2 tog, k3, SSK, rep from * 4 times more, end k1 – 27 sts. Change to B.
Rows 10, 11 and 12: With B, purl. Join A.
Row 13: With B, k1, * with B, k2 tog, with A, k1, with B, SSK, rep from * 4 times more, end with B, k1 – 17 sts. Fasten off A.

Sew all hexagons, half hexagons and heel pentagon together following diagram.
Foot
With RS facing, using dpn’s and A, beg between 2 half hexagons #2, pick up and k76 sts around lower edge of all hexagons and half hexagons. Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up. Divide sts on dpn’s and purl 1 rnd, knit 1 rnd, purl 1 rnd (2 Garter ridges). Join B and knit 1 rnd.
Dec Rnd 1: With B, k31, SSK, k10, k2 tog, k to end – 74 sts.
Next Rnd: * With B, k1, with A, k1, rep from * around.
Dec Rnd 2: With B, k30, SSK, k10, k2 tog, k to end – 72 sts. With B, knit 1 rnd. Change to A.
Dec Rnd 3: With A, k29, SSK, k10, k2 tog, k to end – 70 sts. With A, purl 1 rnd (1 Garter ridge). With A, knit 1 rnd.
Dec Rnd 4: With A, k28, SSK, k10, k2 tog, k to end – 68 sts. Join B.
Next Rnd: * With B, k1, with A, k1, rep from * around. Fasten off B and work even in St st with A until piece measures 4” above last Garter Ridge. Redistribute sts with 17 sts on first and third needles and 34 sts on second (middle) needle. Join B and knit 1 rnd, purl 1 rnd (1 Garter ridge).
Shape Toe: Dec Rnd 1: With B, k15, k2 tog on first needle; SSK, k30, k2 tog on second needle; SSK, k15 on third needle – 64 sts. Purl 1 rnd. (Second Garter ridge). With A, knit 1 rnd.
Dec Rnd 2: With A, k14, k2 tog on first needle; SSK, k28, k2 tog on second needle; SSK, k14 on third needle – 60 sts.
Next Rnd: * With B, k1, with A, k1, rep from * around.
Dec Rnd 3: With A, k13, k2 tog on first needle; SSK, k26, k2 tog on second needle; SSK, k13 on third needle – 56 sts. With A, knit 1 rnd. Change to B.
Dec Rnd 4: With B, k12, k2 tog on first needle; SSK, k24, k2 tog on second needle; SSK, k12 on third needle – 52 sts. With B, purl 1 rnd, knit 1 rnd, purl 1 rnd (2 Garter ridges). Change to A.
Dec Rnd 5: With A, k11, k2 tog on first needle; SSK, k22, k2 tog on second needle; SSK, k11 on third needle – 48 sts. Purl 1 rnd.
Dec Rnd 6: With A, k10, k2 tog on first needle; SSK, k20, k2 tog on second needle; SSK, k10 on third needle – 44 sts. Purl 1 rnd (2 Garter ridges) Change to B and knit 1 rnd.
Dec Rnd 7: With B, k9, k2 tog on first needle; SSK, k18, k2 tog on second needle; SSK, k9 on third needle – 40 sts.
Next Rnd: * With A, k1, with B, k1, rep from * around. Fasten off A and knit 1 rnd with B. Sl 10 sts of first and third needles onto same needle (20 sts on each of 2 needles). Break off yarn leaving a 16” long end. Thread end into tapestry needle and, holding needles parallel, weave sts together using Kitchener St. Optional: Toe may also be bound off using a 3-needle bind-off.
Hanging loop: With straight needles, cast on 28 sts. Work even in Reverse St st for 1”, end on WS. Bind off. Fold piece in half widthwise and sew bound-off and cast-on edges tog. Fold loop in half with 2 ends tog and sew to top of stocking at heel edge.
