Moss St

Rows 1 and 2:  * K1, p1, rep from * across.

Rows 3 and 4:  * P1, k1, rep from * across.

Shrug

Ruffle:  With larger straight needles, cast on 22 sts.  Work even in Moss St for 620(682) rows.  Bind off.

Body:  With longer circular needle, pick up and k310(341) sts along one long edge of ruffle, picking up 1 st in every 2 rows.  Join, being careful not to twist ruffle.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Knit 9(11) rnds.

Dec Rnd 1:  * K8(9), k2 tog, rep from * around – 279(310) sts.  Knit 9(11) rnds.

Dec Rnd 2:  * K7(8), k2 tog, rep from * around – 248(279) sts.  Knit 9(11) rnds.

Dec Rnd 3:  * K6(7), k2 tog, rep from * around – 217(248) sts.  Knit 4 rnds.

Armhole Rnd:  K21(26), bind off 30(33) sts, mark last st, k until there are 115(130) sts on needle after bind-off, mark last st, bind off 30(33) sts, k to end.

Following Rnd:  Knit, casting on 30(33) sts over each group of sts bound off on previous rnd.  Knit 3 rnds.

Dec Rnd 4:  * K5(6), k2 tog, rep from * around – 186(217) sts.  Knit 9 rnds.

Dec Rnd 5:  * K4(5), k2 tog, rep from * around – 155(186) sts.  Knit 7 rnds.

Dec Rnd 6:  * K3(4), k2 tog, rep from * around – 124(155) sts.  Knit 5 rnds.

For size Large/X-Large ONLY:  Dec Rnd 7:  * K3, k2 tog, rep from * around – 124 sts.  Knit 4 rnds.

For ALL sizes:  Dec Rnd 8:  * K2, k2 tog, rep from * around – 93 sts.  Knit 3 rnds.

Dec Rnd 9:  * K1, k2 tog, rep from * around – 62 sts.  Knit 1 rnd.

Dec Rnd 10:  * K2 tog, rep from * around – 31 sts.

Dec Rnd 11:  (K2 tog) 15 times, k1 – 16 sts.  Break off yarn leaving an end.  Thread end into tapestry needle.  Draw end through all sts on needle, pull up tightly and fasten off.

Sleeves

With smaller straight needles, cast on 33(37) sts.

Row 1 (RS):  K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 3½” from beg, end on RS.  Change to larger straight needles and p the next row, dec 3 sts evenly spaced across – 30(34) sts.  Work in St st, inc 1 st each side every 2½(1¾)” 5(7) times – 40(48) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 18” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Cap:  Bind off 2(4) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 36(40) sts.

Dec Row (RS):  K3, k2 tog, k to last 5 sts, SSK, k3 – 34(38) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 3 times more, every 4^th row 3 times, then every RS row 3 times, end on WS -–16(20) sts.  Bind off 2 sts at beg of the next 2 rows.  Bind off remaining 12(16) sts.

Finishing

Sew ends of ruffle tog.  Sew sleeve seams.  Sew in sleeves matching sleeve seams with markers.
