Poncho
With circular needle, cast on 199 sts. DO NOT join. Work back and forth in Pat St until piece measures 18” from beg, end on WS. Bind off all sts.
Finishing
Steam piece with hot steam iron and a pressing cloth. Fold piece in half widthwise. Beg at side edge, sew back and front sections of bound-off edge tog 10 1/2” in from side, leaving 10 1/2” open before fold for neck.
Fringe: Cut two 11” long strands. Put strands tog and fold in half. With crochet hook, draw center of strands through 1st st of cast-on edge forming a lp. Pull ends of fringe through this lp. In this manner make fringe in every sl st along cast-on edge of poncho, then 1/2” apart along both side edges. Trim fringe to even off, if necessary.
Note: For speedier cutting, wrap yarn multiple times around a piece of cardboard that is the desired finished length of the fringe. Cut the lower edge to free wrapped strands.
