Materials

Berroco Cotton Twist (50 grs), 4(4-5) hanks #8327 Dowager (MC) and 1 hank #8342 Sweet Violet (CC).

Straight knitting needles, size 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

Crochet Hook, size 4.50 mm (G).

1 set dounle pointed needles (dpn), size 8 (for hat).

2 double pointed needles (dpn), size 5 (for hat).

Five 1/2" Buttons.

1 St Marker.


Gauge

19 sts = 4"; 26 rows = 4" in St st.

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.


Back

With straight needles, using MC, cast on 45(50-55) sts. Work even in St st until piece measures 5(5 1/2-6)" from beg, end on WS. Mark beg and end of last row for beg of armholes. Work even until armholes measure 4(4 1/2-5)", end on WS. Bind off all sts.


Left Front

With straight needles, using MC, cast on 35(40-45) sts. Work even in St st until piece measures 5(5 1/2-6)" from beg, end on RS. Mark beg of last row for beg of armhole.

Shape Neck: Next Row (WS): Bind off 5(6-6) sts, p to end. Bind off 4(5-6) sts at neck edge 3 times, then dec 1 st at neck edge every RS row 4 times. When armhole measures 4(4 1/2-5)", end on WS. Bind off 14(15-17) sts for shoulder.


Right Front

Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping.


Sleeves

With straight needles, using MC, cast on 28 sts. Work even in St st for 1", end on WS. Inc 1 st each side on next row, every 4th row 0(2-7) times more, every 6th row 3(4-2) times, then every 8th row 1(0-0) times – 38(42-48) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 6(7-8)" from beg, end on WS. Bind off all sts.


Finishing

Steam pieces lightly. Sew shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves between markers. Sew side and sleeve seams.

Body Edging: With RS facing, using crochet hook and CC, join yarn at right side seam, work 1 row sc around lower, front and neck edges, join with a sl st in first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, * ch 3, sc in first sc, skip 1 sc, sc in the next sc, rep from * around, join with a sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

Sleeve Edging: Beg at sleeve seam, work same as for body edging. Lap right front over left front. Mark placement of 2 buttons to be sewn along right side seam on inside. Mark placement of 3 buttons to be sewn to left front spaced evenly along right front edge. Sew on buttons and button through ch-3 spaces of crocheted edging.


Hat (Sizes Small and Medium/Large)

With straight needle, using MC, cast on 72(80) sts. Divide sts evenly onto size 8 dpn’s, being careful not to twist sts. Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up. Work even in St st (k EVERY rnd) for 2".

Dec Rnd: * K2 tog, k7(8), rep from * around – 64(72) sts. Work 3 rows even. Continue to dec in this manner, having 1 less st between dec’s every 4th rnd 7(8) times more – 5 sts.

Next Rnd: K2 tog, k1, k2 tog – 3 sts. Sl all 3 sts onto smaller dpn and work as follows:

I-Cord: * K3, do not turn work. Slide sts to beg of needle to work next row from RS. Rep from * until cord measures 5". Bind off. Weave in end and tie in a knot. ** With smaller dpn and MC, pick up 3 sts at top of hat and work another I-Cord as before. Rep between **’s twice more, then with CC, rep between **’s 4 times – a total of four I-Cords in each color. Turn up cast-on edge of hat 1" to RS and slip-st loosely in place.
