Barrison's skeleton costume is sure to scare up some fun this Halloween.

Finished Measurements

Approximately 13” around x 8” high

 

Materials

1 Hank BERROCO VINTAGE CHUNKY (100 grs), #6145 Cast Iron (MC) and a small amount each #6101 Mochi (A) and #6134 Sour Cherry (B)

Straight knitting needles, size 10 (6.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

1 Set (4)  double pointed knitting needles (dpn), size 10 (6.00 mm)

Tapestry needle

1 St holder

1 St marker

 

Gauge

14 sts = 4”; 21 rows = 4” in St st

NOTE

The “bones” and heart on this garment are added during finishing, using duplicate stitch embroidery (see chart).  If desired, they may be worked into the front Intarsia style as you knit.

 

Back

Left Leg:  With MC, cast on 10 sts.  Work 2 rows in k1, p1 ribbing, then work even in St st for 2 rows, end on WS.  Break off yarn and sl sts to holder for body.

Right Leg:  Work same as left leg for 4 rows, end on WS.

Joining Row (RS):  K10 sts of right leg, cast on 5 sts using cable cast-on method, then k10 sts from holder – 25 sts.  Beg with a p row, work even in St st for 5 rows, end on WS.

Dec Row (RS):  SSK, k to last 2 sts, k2 tog – 23 sts.  Beg with a p row, work even in St st for 16 rows, end on RS.

Dec Row (WS):  P2 tog, p to last 2 sts, p2 tog – 21 sts.  

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 2 sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 17 sts.  Work even in St st for 9 rows, end on RS.  Bind off 15 sts – 2 sts.  Sl these 2 sts onto dpn and work I-Cord for tie as follows:

* Row 1:   K2, DO NOT turn.  Slide sts to beg of needle to work next row from RS.  Rep this row until tie measures 3”.  Fasten off.

 

Front

Work same as back until sts have been bound off for armholes – 17 sts.  Work even in St st for 7 rows, end on RS.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (WS):  P2, join another strand of MC and bind off center 13 sts, p to end.  Working both sides at once, knit 1 row.

Next Row (WS):  Bind off 2 sts for right shoulder; sl 2 sts of left shoulder onto dpn and complete tie same as back.

 

Finishing

With tapestry needle, using A and B, work duplicate st bones and heart on front as shown on chart.  Sew right shoulder, side seams and crotch seam.  Tack left shoulders of back and front together at armhole edge (before tie).

Armbands:  With RS facing, using dpn’s and MC, beg at side seam, pick up and k24 sts around entire armhole.  Divide sts onto 3 dpn’s, mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in k1, p1 ribbing for ½”.  Bind off in ribbing.
