Note:  Waist is adjustable as it has elastic inserted during finishing.  Skirt is straight so the length can be easily adjusted.

Materials

8(8-9-10-10) hanks Berroco Touché (50 grs), #7930 Green Tea

29” Length circular knitting needle, size 8 (5.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

1 St marker

3/4” Wide elastic to fit waist

Gauge

20 sts = 4”;  24 rows = 4” in St st

21 sts = 4”;  32 rows = 4” in Butterfly St

Note

Edging at bottom of skirt is worked back and forth on circular needle without joining.  Sts are then joined and Butterfly St section and ribbing at waist are worked in the round.

Pattern Stitch

Rnds 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9:  * Sl 5 sts WYIF, k5, rep from * around.

Rnds 2, 4, 6 and 8:  Knit.

Rnd 10:  * K2, insert point of RH needle under 5 loose strands and sl these strands onto LH needle; k the 5 strands and the next st tog, k7, rep from * around.

Rnds 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19:  * K5, sl 5 sts WYIF, rep from * around.

Rnds 12, 14, 16 and 18:  Knit.

Rnd 20:  * K7, insert point of RH needle under 5 loose strands and sl these strands onto LH needle;  k the 5 strands and the next st tog, k2, rep from * around.

Rep these 20 rnds for Butterfly Pat.

Note

Skirt is knit from bottom ruffle up.

Ruffle

With circular needle, cast on 256(271-286-301-316) sts.  DO NOT join.

Rows 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 (RS):  K1 TBL, * p2, k1 TBL, rep from * across.

Rows 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10:  P1, * k1 TBL, k1, p1, rep from * across.

Row 11:  K1 TBL, * drop next st off needle, p1, k1 TBL, rep from * across – 171(181-191-201-211) sts.

Rows 12 and 14:  P1, * k1 TBL, p1, rep from * across.

Rows 13 and 15:  K1 TBL, * p1, k1 TBL, rep from * across.  Turn so that RS of work is facing.  K2 tog, k to end, join – 170(180-190-200-210) sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.

Skirt

Work even in the round in Butterfly Pat until skirt measures approximately 19” from beg of ruffle or desired length, end on either Rnd 10 or 20 of pat.

Waistband:  Work even in k1, p1 ribbing for 1”.  Purl 1 rnd for turning rnd.  Work even in k1, p1 ribbing for 1” more.  Bind off in ribbing.

Finishing

Sew side edges of ruffle tog.  Turn waistband to WS along turning rnd and sew in place leaving a 2” long opening.  Cut elastic to fit your waist comfortably, allowing 2” extra for overlap.  Fasten safety pin through one end of elastic and thread pin and elastic through waistband.  Overlap ends by 1” and sew in place.  Sew 2” waistband opening closed.
