Materials

Berroco Ultra Alpaca (100 grs), 6(7-8-9-10) hanks #6201.

Straight knitting needles, size 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

16” Length circular knitting needle, size 8.

1 St marker.

Gauge

20 sts = 4”;  26 rows = 4” in St st on size 8 needles.

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

Back

With straight needles, cast on 100(110-120-130-146) sts.

Row 1 (RS):  K6(3-8-5-5), (p8, k8) 5(6-6-7-8) times, end p8, k6(3-8-5-5).

Row 2:  P6(3-8-5-5), (k8, p8) 5(6-6-7-8) times, k8, p6(3-8-5-5).  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 3 1/2” from beg, end on WS.  Work in St st, dec 1 st each side on the next row, then every 2” 4 times more – 90(100-110-120-136) sts.  Work even until piece measures 13” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 2(2-4-5-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 86(96-102-110-124) sts.

Dec Row (RS):  K3, KSP, k to last 5 sts, SSK, k3 – 84(94-100-108-122) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 5(5-5-7-9) times – 74(84-90-94-104) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 8(8 1/2-9-9-9 1/2)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders and Neck:  Next Row (RS):  Bind off 6(7-8-10-11) sts, k until there are 14(18-20-20-24) sts on RH needle, join another hank of yarn and bind off center 34 sts, k to end.  Working both sides at once, bind off 6(7-8-10-11) sts at beg of the next row, then 6(8-9-9-11) sts at beg of the next 4 rows.  AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row twice.

Front

Work same as for back until armholes measure 7 1/2(8-8 1/2-8 1/2-9)”, end on WS – 74(84-90-94-104) sts.

Note:  Work decs at left edge of neck as SSK, k3.  Work decs at right edge of neck as k3, KSP.

Shape Neck:  K21(26-29-31-36), join another hank of yarn and bind off center 32 sts, k to end.  Working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge as in note every RS row 3 times.  AT THE SAME TIME, when armholes measure 8(8 1/2-9-9-9 1/2)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders:  Bind off 6(7-8-10-11) sts at each armhole edge once, then 6(8-9-9-11) sts twice.

Sleeves

With straight needles, cast on 46 sts.

Row 1 (RS):  K3, (p8, k8) twice, p8, k3.

Row 2:  P3, (k8, p8) twice, k8, p3.  Rep these 2 rows until sleeve measures 3 1/2” from beg, end on WS.  Work in St st, inc 1 st each side every 1(¾-¾-½-½)” 13(14-18-22-25) times – 72(74-82-90-96) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 17½” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Cap:  Bind off 2(2-4-5-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 68(70-74-80-84) sts.

For size Large ONLY:  Dec Row 1 (RS):  K3, K2SP, k to last 6 sts, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, k3 – 76 sts.  Purl 1 row.

For ALL sizes:  Dec Row 2 (RS):  K3, KSP, k to last 4 sts, SSK, k3 – 66(68-72-74-82) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 6(5-5-6-7) times more, then every other RS row 0(1-1-0-0) time, end on WS.  Bind off remaining 54(58-62-62-68) sts.

Finishing

Steam pieces with hot steam iron and a pressing cloth.  Sew shoulder seams.

Turtleneck:  With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at center back neck, pick up and k19 sts to left shoulder seam, 13 sts along left front neck edge, 32 sts across front neck edge, 13 sts along right front neck edge, then 19 sts across remaining back neck edge – 96 sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in k8, p8 ribbing for 8”.  Bind off all sts in ribbing.  Sew in sleeves, stretching cap slightly to fit.  Sew side and sleeve seams.
