Dec Row (RS): K1, k2 tog, k to last 3 sts, SSK, k1 – 86(98-108-120-130-142) sts. Rep this dec every 1½” 3 times more – 80(92-102-114- 124-136) sts. Work even until piece measures 11(11-11½-11½-12-12)” from beg, end on WS. Inc Row (RS): K1, M1k, k to last st, M1k, k1 – 82(94-104-116-126-138) sts. Rep this inc every 1” 3 times more – 88(100-110-122-132- 144) sts. Work even until piece measures 15(15-15½-15½-16-16)” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes: Bind off 4(6-7-8-10-10) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 0(4-4-4-4-4) sts at beg of next 2 rows – 80(80-88-98-104-116) sts. Dec 1 st each side every RS row 7(7-8-10- 11-14) times – 66(66-72-78-82-88) sts. Work even until armholes measure 7(7-7½-8-8½-9)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders: Bind off 2(2-3-4-6-7) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 3(3-4-5-5-6) sts at beg of the next 4 rows. Bind off remaining 50 sts for back neck.

Dec Row (RS): K1, k2 tog, k to last 3 sts, SSK, k1 – 108(120-130-142-152-164) sts. Rep this dec every 1½” 3 times more – 102(114-124-136- 146-158) sts. Work even until piece measures 11(11-11½-11½-12-12)” from beg, end on WS.

Inc Row (RS): K1, M1k, k to last st, M1k, k1 – 104(116-126-138-148-160) sts. Rep this inc every 1” 3 times more – 110(122-132-144- 154-166) sts. Work even until piece measures 15(15-15½-15½-16-16)” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes: Bind off 4(6-7-8-10-10) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 0(4-4-4-4-4) sts at beg of next 2 rows – 102(102-110-120-126- 138) sts. Dec 1 st each side every RS row 7(7- 8-10-11-14) times – 88(88-94-100-104-110) sts. Work even until armholes measure 2(2-2½-3- 3½-4)”, end on WS.

Shape Neck: Next Row (RS): Mark center 44 sts. Cont armhole shaping if necessary and work to marked sts, join another hank of yarn and k the next 44 sts, then sl these sts to holder, k to end. Working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row 14 times – 8(8- 11-14-16-19) sts each side. Work even until armholes measure 7(7-7½-8-8½-9)”, end on WS. Bind off 2(2-3-4-6-7) sts at each armhole edge once, then 3(3-4-5-5-6) sts twice for shoulders.


Finishing

Sew shoulder seams.

Neckband: With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at left end of front holder, pick up > and k26 sts along right front neck edge, 45 sts across back neck edge, then 26 sts along left front neck edge to the left end of holder – 97 sts. DO NOT join. Knit 1 row. Bind off purlwise on RS.

Armhole Edging: With larger straight needles, pick up and k98(98-102-108-112-116) sts around entire armhole edge. Knit 1 row. Bind off purlwise on RS. Sew side and armhole edging seams.

Front Casing: With WS facing, sl 44 sts from front holder to larger straight needle. Join yarn and knit 1 row.

Row 2 (RS): P21, yo, k2 tog, p21. Knit 1 row, purl 1 row. Bind off knitwise. Fold casing to WS and sew bound-off edge in place, leaving both ends open.

I-Cords (Make 2): With dpn’s, cast on 3 sts.

Row 1: * K3, do not turn work. Slide sts to beg of needle to work next row from RS. Rep from * until cord measures 12”. Fasten off. Fasten safety pin to one end of first I-Cord. Draw cord through open end of casing and out of yo in center. Sew end of cord and open end of casing tog. Repeat with the other cord on the other side of casing. Tie as in photo.
