3(4-4-5-5-6) Hanks Berroco Vintage Chunky (100 grs), #6175 Fennel

Straight knitting needles, sizes 8 (5.00 mm) and 10 (6.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE


Gauge

14 sts = 4”; 21 rows = 4” in St st on larger needles

Pattern Stitch

Rows 1 – 4: Knit.

Row 5 (RS):  K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.

Row 6:  P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.

Row 7:  Rep Row 5.

Rows 8 – 11:  Knit.

Row 12 (WS):  Rep Row 6.

Rep these 12 rows for Pat St.


Back

With smaller needles, cast on 65(71-77-81-87-93) sts.  Purl 1 row on RS.

Ribbing:  Row 1 (WS):  P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.

Row 2:  K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 1½” from beg, end on RS.  Change to larger needles and p the next row, dec 22(24-28-28-30-32) sts across – 43(47-49-53-57-61) sts.  Work even in St st until piece measures 7(7½-8-8½-9-9½)” from beg, end on WS.  Work even in Pat St until piece measures 9½(10-10½-11-11½-12)” from beg, end on WS.  Mark beg and end of last row for beg of armholes.  Work even in Pat St until armholes measure 4½(5-5-5½-5½-6)”, end on WS.  Bind off.


Front

Work same as back until armholes measure 3(3½-- 4- 4-4½)”, end on WS – 43(47-49-53-57-61) sts.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  Work 16(17-18-20-21-23) sts, join another hank of yarn and bind off center 11(13-13-13-15-15) sts, work to end.  Working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row 3 times.  Work even on 13(14-15-17-18-20) sts each side until armholes measure 4½(5 -5-5½-5½-6)”, end on WS.  Bind off.


Sleeves

With smaller needles, cast on 33(33-33-35-35-35) sts.  Work in ribbing same as back for 1½”, end on RS.  Change to larger needles and p the next row, dec 12 sts across – 21(21-21-23-23-23) sts.  Work in St st, inc 1 st each side every 1½(1¼-1¼-1¼-1¼-1¼)” 5(7-7-8-8-9) times – 31(35-35-39-39-41) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 10(11-12-13-14-15)” from beg, end on WS.  Bind off.


Finishing

Sew right shoulder seam.

Neckband:  With RS facing, using smaller needles, beg at left front neck edge, pick up and k51(55-55-55-59-59) sts around entire neck edge.  Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as back for 1”, end on WS.  Bind off loosely in ribbing.  Sew left shoulder and neckband seam.  Sew on sleeves between markers.  Sew side and sleeve seams.
