Row 2:  P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 2” from beg, end on RS.  Change to larger needles and p the next row, dec 22(24-26-28-30-32) sts across – 80(90-100-110-120-130) sts.  Work even in St st until piece measures 4(4-4½ -4½ -5-5)” from beg, end on WS.  Change to B and work 2 rows even, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders:  Bind off 5(6-6-7-9-10) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 5(6-7-8-8-9) sts at beg of the next 4 rows.  Bind off remaining 30 sts for back neck.

Left Front

With smaller needles, using B, cast on 54(62-66-74-78-86) sts.

Inc Row (RS):  K1, M1k, work to end – 44(48-52-58-62-68) sts.  Rep this inc every 1” twice more – 46(50-54-60-64-70) sts.  When piece measures 12(12-12½ -12½ -13-13)” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  K to 3 sts before marker, SSK, k1, sl marker, k8 – 45(49-53-59-63-69) sts.  Rep this dec every ¾" 12(11-10-11-10-11) times more.  AT THE SAME TIME, when piece measures 13(13-13½ -13½ -14-14)” from beg, shape armhole same as back.  When armhole measures 3”, change to A.  When all armhole and neck decs have been completed, work even on 23(26-28-31-33-36) sts until armhole measures 7½(8-8½ -8½ -9-9½)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulder:  Bind off 5(6-6-7-9-10) sts at armhole edge once, then 5(6-7-8-8-9) sts twice – 8 sts.  Work even in Garter St for neck extension until piece measures 3” above last group of bound-off sts, end on WS.  Bind off.  Mark placement of buttons along front band the first 1” up from lower edge, the last ½" below beg of neck shaping and the others evenly spaced between.

Right Front

With smaller needles, using A, cast on 54(62-66-74-78-86) sts.

Ribbing:  Row 1 (RS):  K8, place marker, k2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P2, * k2, p2, rep from * to marker, sl marker, k8.  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 1” from beg, end on WS.

Buttonhole Row (RS):  K3, k2 tog, yo, k3, work in ribbing as established to end.  Complete to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping and making 4 more buttonholes opposite markers on left front band.  When piece measures 4(4-4½ - 4½ -5-5)” from beg, change to B.  Work body decs at end of RS rows as SSK, k1.  Work body incs at end of RS rows as M1k, k1.  Work neck decs after marker as k1, k2 tog.  Bind off for armhole on WS rows.  Work armhole decs at end of RS rows as SSK, k1.  When armhole measures 3”, change to C.  Bind off for shoulder on WS rows.

Left Sleeve

With smaller needles, using C, cast on 66 sts.  Work in ribbing same as back for 1½", end on RS.  Change to larger needles and p the next row, dec 16 sts across – 50 sts.  Work in St st, inc 1 st each side every 2(1¼ -1-¾ -½ -½)” 5(7-10-12-15-17) times – 60(64-70-74-80-84) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 12” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Cap:  Bind off 3(4-4-5-6-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 2 sts at beg of the following 2 rows – 50(52-58-60-64-68) sts.

Dec Row (RS):  K1, k2 tog, k to last 3 sts, SSK, k1 – 48(50-56-58-62-66) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 15(15-15-15-16-16) times more, end on WS – 18(20-26-28-30-34) sts.  Bind off 5(4-4-5-6-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 8(12-18-18-18-22) sts.

Right Sleeve

Work same as left sleeve, using B instead of C.

Finishing

Sew shoulder seams. Sew bound-off edges of neck extensions together. Sew inner edges of neck extensions to back neck edge with seam at center. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seam. Sew on buttons.
