16" Length circular knitting needles, sizes 6 (4.00 mm) and 7 (4.50 mm)

Gauge

17 sts = 4"; 23 rows = 4" in St st on size 8 (5.00 mm) needles

16 sts = 4"; 32 rows = 4" in Garter St on size 8 (5.00 mm) needles

Back

With smaller straight needles, cast on 110(122-134-146-158) sts.

Ribbing:  Row 1 (RS):  K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 3" from beg, end on RS.  Change to larger straight needles and p the next row, dec 32(36-40-44-46) sts as evenly spaced across as possible - 78(86-94-102-112) sts.  Work even in St st until piece measures 17" from beg, end on WS, dec 6(6-6-6-6-8) sts as evenly spaced as possible across last row - 72(80-88-96-104) sts.  Mark beg and end of last row for beg of armholes.  Work even in Garter St until armholes measure 9(9½-10-10½-11)", end on WS.

Next Row (RS):  Bind off 19(23-27-31-35) sts, k until there are 34 sts on RH needle, then sl these sts onto holder for back neck, bind off remaining 19(23-27-31-35) sts.


Front

Work same as back until armholes measure 6(6½-7-7½-8)", end on WS - 72(80-88-96-104) sts.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  K28(32-36-40-44), sl center 16 sts to holder for front neck, join another ball of yarn and k to end.  Working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge EVERY row 4 times, then every RS row 5 times - 19(23-27-31-35) sts each side.  Work even until armholes measure same as back, end on WS.  Bind off.  Sew shoulder seams.


Sleeves

With RS facing, using larger straight needles, pick up and k76(80-84-88-92) sts along armhole edge between markers.  Beg with a p row, work even in St st for 1", end on WS.

Dec Row (RS):  K1, k2 tog, k to last 3 sts, SSK, k1 - 74(78-82-86-90) sts.  Rep this dec every 1(¾-¾-¾-½)" 16(18-19-21-22) times more - 42(42-44-44-46) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 17" from beg, end on RS.  Change to smaller needles and p the next row, inc 16(16-18-18-20) sts as evenly spaced across as possible - 58(58-62-62-66) sts.  Work in ribbing same as back for 3", end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing.


Finishing

Sew side and sleeve seams.

Neckband:  With RS facing, using smaller circular needle, beg at left shoulder seam, pick up and k19 sts along left front neck edge, k16 sts from front holder, pick up and k19 sts along right front neck edge, then k34 sts from back holder - 88 sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in k2, p2 ribbing for 2".  Change to large circular needle and work even until neckband measures 4".  Bind off in ribbing.
