Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 and 8, OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

16” Length circular knitting needle, size 6.

1 St holder.

Gauge

20 sts = 4”; 24 rows = 4” in St st with 1 strand each of A and B worked tog as in NOTE on size 8 needles.

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

Note

B should be added to A every 3rd row.  Simply work with both yarns held tog on the third row.  When B is not in use, it may be carried loosely up side of work.  Do not leave long loops.

Back

With smaller straight needles, using A, cast on 93(97-103-109-121-133) sts.

Row 1 (WS): P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.

Row 2:K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows once more, end on RS.  Change to larger straight needles and purl the next row, dec 12(12-12-14-16-18) sts evenly spaced across – 81(85-91-95-105-115) sts. Beg with a knit row, work even in St st adding B as in NOTE until piece measures 8” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Raglan Armholes:  Bind off 2(2-3-3-5-8) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 77(81-85-89-95-99) sts.

Dec Row (RS):K1, k2tog, k to last 3 sts, SSK, k1 – 75(79-83-87-93-97) sts.Rep this dec every RS row 14(16-19-21-26-28) times more, then every other RS row 3(3-2-2-0-0) times, end on WS – 41 sts.  Sl all sts onto holder for back neck.

Left Front

With smaller straight needles, using A, cast on 37(41-43-47-51-57) sts.

Row 1 (WS): P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.

Row 2: K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows once more, end on RS. Change to larger straight needles.

Row 1 (WS):(P1, k1) twice, p to last 4 sts decreasing 5(5-5-6-5-7) sts evenly spaced across, (k1, p1) twice – 32(36-38-41-46-50) sts.  From this point, add B as in NOTE.

Row 2:(K1, p1) twice, k to last 4 sts, (p1, k1) twice.

Row 3:(P1, k1) twice, p to last 4 sts, (k1, p1) twice.  Rep Rows 2 and 3 until piece measures 14” from beg, end on WS.

Next Row (RS):Knit to last 4 sts, (p1, k1) twice.

Following Row:(P1, k1) twice, p to end.  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 16½” from beg, end on RS.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (WS):Bind off 4 sts for neckband, p to end – 28(32-34-37-42-46) sts.  Continue in St st until piece measures 22” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Raglan Armhole:Next Row (RS):Bind off 2(2-3-3-5-8) sts, k to end – 26(30-31-34-37-38) sts.

Dec Row 1 (RS):K1, k3tog, k to end – 24(28-29-32-35-36) sts.Rep this dec every RS row 6(8-8-9-11-10) times more, end on WS – 12(12-13-14-13-16) sts.

Dec Row 2 (RS):K1, k2tog, k to end – 11(11-12-13-12-15) sts.Rep this dec every RS row 10(10-11-12-11-14) times more, end on WS.  Fasten off last st.

Right Front

Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping. Bind off for neck on RS row instead of WS row and armhole on WS row instead of RS row. Work armhole decs as k3tog, k1 at end of RS rows.

Left Sleeve

With smaller straight needles, using A, cast on 61(65-71-75-81-85) sts.  Work in ribbing same as for back for  1/2”, end on WS decreasing 1 st at end of last row – 60(64-70-74-80-84) sts.  Change to larger needles and work even in St st, adding B as in NOTE until piece measures 1” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Raglan Cap:  Bind off 2(2-3-3-5-8) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 56(60-64-68-70-68) sts.

Note: Due to the shaping of cap (see schematic), decs are worked at each edge differently from each other. You must keep track of each edge separately.  Please read through this entire section before starting to knit.

Work decs at beg of RS rows as k1, k2 tog.  Work decs at end of RS rows as SSK, k1.  Working decs in this manner, dec 1 st at beg of RS rows every RS row 3(5-8-10-11-7) times, then every other RS row 9(9-8-8-8-11) times.  AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st at end of RS rows every RS row 6(8-11-13-14-10) times, then every other RS row 6(6-5-5-5-8) times.  When all decs at end of RS rows have been completed, continue to work decs at beg of RS rows.  AT THE SAME TIME, bind off 6 sts at beg of the 1st WS row, then 5 sts at beg of the next 2 WS rows for neck.  When all decs have been completed, bind off remaining 16 sts.

Right Sleeve

Work same as for left sleeve until sleeve measures 1” from beg, end on WS – 60(64-70-74-80-84) sts.

Shape Raglan Cap:  Bind off 2(2-3-3-5-8) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 56(60-64-68-70-68) sts.  Work decs at beg of RS rows as k1, k2 tog.  Work decs at end of RS rows as SSK, k1.  Working decs in this manner, dec 1 st at beg of RS rows every RS row 6(8-11-13-14-10) times, then every other RS row 6(6-5-5-5-8) times.  AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st at end of RS rows every RS row 3(5-8-10-11-7) times, then every other RS row 9(9-8-8-8-11) times.  When all decs at beg of RS rows have been completed, continue to work decs at end of RS rows.  AT THE SAME TIME, bind off 6 sts at beg of the next RS row, then 5 sts at beg of the next 2 RS rows for neck.  When all decs have been completed, end on WS.  Bind off remaining 16 sts.

Finishing

Steam pieces with hot steam iron and a pressing cloth. Sew shoulder seams. Sew raglan sleeve caps to raglan armholes. Sew side and sleeve seams.

Neckband:With RS facing, using circular needle and A, beg at right front neck edge, pick up and k48(48-50-53-56-58) sts along right front neck edge, 27 sts along top of right sleeve, k41 from back holder, pick up and knit 27 sts along top of left sleeve, and 48(48-50-53-56-58) sts along left front neck edge – 191(191-195-201-207-211) sts.

Row 1 (WS):  K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows once more. Bind off all sts in ribbing. Sew side edges of neckband to fronts.
