Back

With smaller straight needles, cast on 90(96-108-122-132-148) sts.  Work even in St st for 1”, end on WS.  Change to larger needles and work even in St st until piece measures 3” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Waist:  Dec Row (RS):  K2, SSK, k to last 4 sts, k2 tog, k2.  Rep this dec every 1-1/4” 4 times more, end on WS – 80(86-98-112-122-138) sts.  Piece should measure 8” from beg.  Work even for 1-1/2”, end on WS.

Inc Row (RS):  K2, M1k, k to last 2 sts, M1k, k2.  Rep this inc alternately every 1” and ¾” twice – 90(96-108-122-132-148) sts.  Work even until piece measures 13” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Row 1 (RS):  (K1, p1) twice, KSP, k to last 6 sts, sl 1, k1, psso, (p1, k1) twice.  Keeping 4 sts at each side in ribbing as established, continue to dec in this manner every RS row 3(3-4-4-4-3) times more, then every other RS row 5 times – 72(78-88-102-112-130) sts.  Keeping 4 sts at each side in ribbing as established and all other sts in St st, work even until armholes measure 7-1/2(8-8-1/2-9-9-1/2-10)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders:  Bind off 3(4-5-8-9-12) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 3(4-6-8-10-13) sts at beg of the next 4 rows.  Work even in St st on remaining 54 sts for 8 rows more, end on WS.  Sl all sts onto holder for back neck.


Front

Work same as for back until piece measures 3-1/2” and 88(92-106-120-130-146) sts remain, end on WS.

Establish Pat St:  Row 1 (RS):  K15(18-24-31-36-44), M1k, place marker, work Row 1 of Pat St over 4 sts, place marker, k2 tog, k46, k2 tog TBL, place marker, work Row 1 of Pat St over 4 sts, place marker, M1k, k to end.

Row 2:  P to first marker, work Row 2 of Pat St to next marker, p to next marker, work Row 2 of Pat St to last marker, p to end.

Row 3:  K to first marker, M1k, sl marker, work Row 1 of Pat St to next marker, sl marker, k2 tog, k to 2 sts before next marker, k2 tog TBL, sl marker, work Row 1 of Pat St to last marker, sl marker, M1k, k to end.  In this manner, continue to move each Pat St band 1 st toward center every RS row and AT THE SAME TIME, continue to shape sides same as for back.  When 28 sts remain between Pat St bands and piece measures approximately 6½” from beg, end on WS.  Drop markers and discontinue Pat St bands.  Working all sts in St st, work same as for back until armholes measure 4-1/2(5-5-1/2-6-6-1/2-7)”, end on WS – 72(78-88-102-112-130) sts.

Establish Pat St:  Row 1 (RS):  (K1, p1) twice, k13(16-21-28-33-42), k2 tog TBL, place marker, work Row 1 of Pat St over 4 sts, place marker, M1k, k26, M1k, place marker, work Row 1 of Pat St over 4 sts, place marker, k2 tog, k to last 4 sts, (p1, k1) twice.

Row 2:  (P1, k1) twice, p to first marker, work Row 2 of Pat St to next marker, p to next marker, work Row 2 of Pat St to last marker, p to last 4 sts, (k1, p1) twice.  In this manner, continue to move each Pat St band 1 st toward armhole edge every RS row until there are 48 sts between Pat St bands and armholes measure approximately 7-1/2(8-8-1/2-9-9-1/2-10)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders and Neck:  Row 1 (RS):  Bind off 3(4-5-8-9-12) sts, k until there are 3(5-9-13-17-23) sts on RH needle, k2 tog, work Row 1 of Pat St to next marker, M1k, k10, sl center 28 sts onto holder, join another ball of yarn and k10, M1k, work Row 1 of Pat St to next marker, SSK, k to end.  Work both sides at once.

Row 2:  Bind off 3(4-5-8-9-12) sts, work in pat as established to end, dec 1 st at each neck edge.  Continue in this manner to bind off 3(4-6-8-10-13) sts at beg of the next 4 rows, while moving Pat St bands 1 st towards armholes on every RS row.  AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st at each neck edge EVERY row.  When bind off rows have been completed, continue to dec 1 st at each neck edge EVERY row until 1 st remains on each side.  Fasten off.


Finishing

Steam pieces lightly.  Sew shoulder seams.  Sew side seams, reversing seams over lower 1” for rolled edge.

Neckband:  With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at center back, k27 sts from back holder, pick up and k11 sts along left front neck edge, k28 sts from front holder, pick up and k11 sts along right front neck edge then k remaining 27 sts from back holder – 104 sts.  Mark for beg of round and carry marker up.  Work in Reverse St st (p EVERY round) for ¾”.  Bind off all sts purlwise.
