Note

When changing colors, hold yarn to the left and pick up new color from underneath.  This twists yarn so there are no holes.

Bag

With circular needle, using Reddish Purple, cast on 204 sts.  Join, being careful not to twist sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in St st (k EVERY rnd), following Chart 1 until chart has been completed.  Change to Fennel and p the next rnd, decreasing 10 sts evenly spaced – 194 sts.  P 1 more rnd Fennel, p 2 rnds Fern, 2 rnds Winter White, 2 rnds Rose Spice, then 1 rnd Fuschia.  P 1 more rnd Fuschia, increasing 10 sts evenly spaced around – 204.  Work even in St st following Chart 2 until chart has been completed.  Change to Reddish Purple and p the next rnd, decreasing 10 sts evenly spaced – 194 sts.  P 1 more rnd Fuschia, 2 rnds Rose Spice, 2 rnds Winter White, 2 rnds Fern, then 1 rnd Pumpkin Puree.  P 1 more rnd Pumpkin Puree, increasing 10 sts evenly spaced around – 204 sts.  Work even in St st following Chart 3 until chart has been completed.  Change to Blue Violet and p the next rnd, decreasing 10 sts evenly spaced – 194 sts.  P 1 more rnd Blue Violet, 2 rnds Winter White, then 1 rnd Pumpkin Puree.  P 1 more rnd Pumpkin Puree, increasing 10 sts evenly spaced – 204 sts.  Work even in St st, following Chart 4 until chart has been completed.  Join Pumpkin Puree and p the next rnd, decreasing 10 sts evenly spaced – 194 sts.  P 1 more rnd Pumpkin Puree, 2 rnds Winter White, then 1 rnd Rose Spice.  P 1 more rnd Rose Spice, increasing 10 sts evenly spaced – 204 sts.  Work even in St st following Chart 1 until chart has been completed.  Change to Fennel and p the next rnd, decreasing 10 sts evenly spaced – 194 sts.  P 1 more rnd Fennel, 2 rnds Fern, 2 rnds Winter White, 2 rnds Rose Spice, then 2 rnds Fuschia.  Bind off.

Finishing

Fold bag flat and, using crochet hook and Reddish Purple, crochet bottom of bag tog.  Felt bag by washing in washing machine using hot water and soap.  Rinse well and allow to air dry, shaping by hand.  Carefully trim fuzz left by felting so that pattern can be seen.

Top Edging:  Rnd 1:  With RS facing, using smaller crochet hook and Fern, * work 1 sc in top edge of bag, ch 1, skip 1/4”, rep from * around, join with a sl st in first sc.  Change to Fuschia.

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, work 2 sc’s in each ch-1 space around, join with a sl st in ch-1.  Change to Pumpkin Puree.

Rnd 3:  Ch 1, * work 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc’s, ch 2, skip 2 sc’s, rep from * around, join with a sl st in ch-1.  Change to Blue Violet.

Rnd 4:  Ch 1, * skip 1 sc, work 1 sc in each of the next 2 sc’s, skip 1 sc, work 6 dc’s in ch-2 space, rep from * around, join with a sl st in ch-1.  Change to Rose Spice.

Rnd 5:  Ch 1, work 1 sc in each sc and dc around, join with a sl st in ch-1.  Fasten off.

Drawstring:  Cut one 150” long strand each of Blue Violet and Fern.  Put strands tog and fold in half.   Tie ends in a knot.  Holding the knot in your hand, slip the loop over a hook and pull tight.  Slip a pencil through the knotted end and twist until cord is so tight that it can’t be twisted further and starts to double back on itself.  Put 1 finger in center of cord and carefully fold in half, letting 2 ends of cord twist tog.  Tie end in knot.  Beg and end at center front, weave cord through Rnd 3 of edging.  Knot the other end and tie cord as in photo, drawing in if desired.

Strap

With dpn’s, using 1 strand each of Fuschia and Reddish Purple, cast on 6 sts and work I-Cord as follows:

Row 1:  * K6, do not turn work.  Slide sts to beg of needle to work next row from RS.  Rep from * until strap measures 34” or desired length.  Bind off.  Sew rings to each side of bag.  Sew one end of strap to each ring.

Dolls (Make 7)

Note:  Each doll should be made using 5 different colors of yarn.  The combinations are your choice.

Head:  With smaller crochet hook and color #1, ch 4 leaving a 12” long end at beg.  Join with a sl st to form a ring.  Ch 1, work 6 sc’s in ring, join with a sl st in ch-1 – 6 sc’s.

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, * 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc’s in next sc, rep from * twice more, join with a sl st in ch-1 – 9 sc’s.

Rnd 3:  Ch 1, * 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc’s in next sc, rep from * 3 times more, 1 sc in next sc, join with a sl st in ch-1 – 13 sc’s.

Rnd 4:  Ch 1, * 1 sc in next sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc’s, rep from * 3 times more, sc in next sc, join with a sl st in ch-1 – 9 sc’s.

Rnd 5:  Ch 1, * 1 sc in next sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc’s, rep from * twice more, join with a sl st in ch-1 – 6 sc’s.

Rnd 6:  Ch 1, * dec 1 sc over next 2 sc’s, rep from * twice more, join with a sl st in ch-1 – 3 sc’s.  Fasten off.  Cut yarn leaving a 12” long end.  Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through last 3 sc’s drawing tog.  Thread beginning end into tapestry needle and thread down through head.  Tie the 2 ends tog at bottom of head.

Body:  Wrap color #2 around 4 fingers 12 times forming a large loop.  Cut yarn.

Tie 2 ends at bottom of head around 12 strands of loop.  Thread 2 strands into tapestry needle and draw up through head and out top.  Cut one 12” long strand of color #3.  Wrap strand several times around all 24 strands of body 1” down from head and knot securely for waist.  Trim ends close to knot.

Arms:  Cut four 8” long strands of color #4.  Thread strands into tapestry needle and draw through body and knot at bottom of head leaving half of strands on each side for arms.  Tie each end of strands for hands and cut strands 1/4” from knots for fingers.

Hair:  With crochet hook, using color #5, make 2 chains 5” long working very tightly and twisting chains as you work.  Fasten off.

Trim ends of both chains closely.  Put 2 chains tog and tie at center with 2 strands at top of head. 

Thread strands into tapestry needle and draw down through center of head, neck and waist, coming out in center of body. 

Trim lower ends of body to desired length to form skirt. 

Using larger crochet hook and any color, join yarn in top of head and chain to desired length.  Fasten off leaving an 8” long end.  Sew buttons to front of bag at different levels as in photo using 8” long ends at top of dolls’ chains.
