Bottle Cover

With dpn’s, cast on 60 sts.  Divide sts evenly onto 3 needles (20 sts per needle) and join, being careful not to twist sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work in k2, p2 ribbing for 3/4”.

Eyelet Rnd:  * K2, yo, p2 tog, rep from * around – 60 sts.  Continue to work in k2, p2 ribbing until piece measures 1 1/2” from beg.  Change to St st (k EVERY rnd) and work even until piece measures 8” or desired length from beg.

Shape Bottom:  Dec Rnd 1:  * K8, k2 tog, rep from * around – 54 sts.  Knit 1 rnd.

Dec Rnd 2:  * K7, k2 tog, rep from * around – 48 sts.  Knit 1 rnd.  Continue to dec 6 sts every other rnd 5 times more in this manner, having 1 less st between decs each time – 18 sts.

Next Rnd:  * K2 tog, rep from * around – 9 sts.  Break off yarn leaving a 10” long end.  Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needles.  Pull up tightly and secure.

Finishing

Twisted Cord:  Cut two 94” long strands of yarn.  Put strands tog and fold in half.  Tie ends in a knot.  Holding the knot in your hand, slip the loop over a hook and pull tight.  Slip a pencil through the knotted end and twist until cord is so tight that it can’t be twisted further and starts to double back on itself.  Put 1 finger in center of cord and carefully fold in half, letting 2 ends of cord twist tog.  Thread cord in and out through eyelet rnd.  Make two 2” pompons and sew 1 to each end of cord.
