Note

Upper back of this garment is worked in 2 sections.  Lower section is worked separately in 2 pieces - once piece includes the left front and left back and the other includes the right front and right back. 

 

Granny U Pattern

Ch a multiple of 3.

Row 1:  Sc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across.  Turn.

Row 2:  Ch 2, dc in first sc, * skip 2 sc, 3 dc in next sc, rep from * across.  DO NOT turn.  Ch 3 (corner sp), 3 dc in end of work, ch 3 (corner sp), working into the other side of work, ** 3 dc in hole made by 3dc, rep from ** across, end 2 dc in last ch.  Turn.

Row 3:  Ch 2, * 3dc in sp between clusters, * rep between *'s to first ch-3 corner sp, (3dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in each ch-3 sp, rep between *'s to last st, end dc in last st.  Turn.

Row 4:  Ch 2, dc in first sp, * 3 dc in sp between clusters, * rep between *'s to first ch-3 corner sp, (3dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in ch-3 corner sp, 3dc in sp between next 2 clusters, (3dc, ch 3, 3dc)  in next ch-3 corner sp, rep between *'s to last sp, end dc in last sp and dc in last st.  Turn.

Lower Left Front/Back

Ch 51(60-69-75-84-93).  Mark ch on hook for inner edge of piece.  Work in Granny U Pat until piece measures approximately 18(20-22-24-26-28)" wide x 10" high (see schematic).  Fasten off.

 

Lower Right Front/Back

Ch 51(60-69-75-84-93).  Mark first ch made for inner edge of piece.  Work same as Lower Left Front/Back.

 

Upper Back (Make 2)

Ch 42(45-45-48-51-51).  Mark ch on hook for upper edge of piece.  Work in Granny U Pat until piece measures approximately 15(16-17-18-19-20)"  x 9(10-11-12-13-14)".  (See schematic).

 

Upper Left Front

Ch 42(45-45-48-51-51).  Mark ch on hook for upper edge of piece.  Work in Granny U Pat until piece measures approximately 4(5-6-7-8-9)" x 12½(13½-14½- 15½-16½-17½)". 

Shape Neck Extension:  At beg of next row, ch 12, dc in 3rd ch from hook and in next ch, * skip 1 ch, 3dc in next ch, rep from * twice more, continue across row in Granny U Pat.  Work in pat as established until piece measures approximately 15(16-17-18-19-20)" (not including neck extension) x 9(10-11-12-13-14)".  Fasten off.   

 

Upper Right Front

Work to correspond to Upper Left Front, reversing placement of Neck Extension.

 

Sleeves

Ch 27.  Work in Granny U Pat until piece measures approximately 12" x 10".

Shape First Side:  Row 1:  Work in pat as established for 9" along side of sleeve.

Row 2:  Turn, then work back to top edge of sleeve.

Row 3:  Turn, then work in pat as established for 5(5-6-6-7-7)" along side of sleeve. 

Row 4:  Turn, then work back to top edge of sleeve.

For Sizes Medium, Large, 1X and 2X ONLY:  Row 5:  Turn, then work in pat as established for 0(0-3-3-5-5)" along side of sleeve.

Row 6:  Turn, then work back to top edge of sleeve.

For Sizes 1X and 2X ONLY:  Row 7:  Turn, then work in pat as established for 0(0-0-0-3-3)" along side edge of sleeve.

Row 8:  Turn, then work back to top edge of sleeve.

For ALL Sizes:  Fasten off.

Shape Second Side:  Work same as for first side.

 

Finishing

Use schematic to help with placement of pieces.  On upper left and right fronts, measure down 7(7-8-8-9-9)" from marked upper edges on sides opposite neck extensions and mark for beg of armholes. (These edges will be side seams.)  Sew side seams of fronts to side seams of back sections leaving 7(7-8-8-9-9)" above markers open for armholes.  Sew upper edges of lower sections to front and back sections with marked edges of lower sections even with back edges.  Sew back seam.   Fold fronts over back with edges meeting and sew shoulder seams, leaving 5" unsewn at center of back for back neck.  Sew ends of neck extensions together, then sew inner edges of neck extensions to back neck edge with seam in center.  Sew sleeve seams.  Sew sleeves into armholes with seams at bottom edges of armholes.
