Materials

6(6-7-8-9-10) Hanks Berroco Ultra Alpaca Tonal (100 grs), #6305 Cacoa

29” and 16” Length circular knitting needles, size 8 (5.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Straight knitting needles, size 8 (5.00 mm)

8 St markers (1 a different color)

Gauge

20 sts = 4”; 26 rnds = 4” in St st

Note

Body of garment is worked in the round.  Sleeves are worked straight from side to side.  Sts are then picked up along top edge of sleeve so that yoke is worked in the round.

Sleeves (Make 2)

With straight needles, cast on 18 sts.  Work 2 rows in St st, end on WS.  Cast on 18 sts at beg of the next RS row, then cast on 20 sts at beg of the next RS row – 56 sts.  Work even until piece measures 10(10-11-12-13-14)” above last group of cast-on sts, end on WS.  Bind off 20 sts at beg of the next row, then 18 sts at beg of the next 2 RS rows.

Cuffs:  With RS facing, using straight needles, pick up and k50(50-55-60-65-70) sts along one side edge of sleeve.  Knit 1 row on WS for Garter Ridge.  Work even in St st for 4”, end on WS.  Bind off.  Sew sleeve and cuff seam.  Fold cuff in half to WS and sew bound-off edge to wrong side of Garter Ridge.  On straight edge of sleeve (this is now top edge), measure 1” from sleeve seam in each direction and place markers.  Set sleeves aside for yoke.

Body

With circular needle, cast on 200(220-240-260-280-300) sts.  Join, being careful not to twist sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in St st (k EVERY rnd) for 6”.  Purl 1 rnd for Garter Ridge.  Work even in St st until piece measures 7(7-7½-7½-8-8)” above Garter Ridge.

Shape Underarms:  Bind off 5 sts, k89(99-109-119-129-139), bind off 10 sts, k to last 5 sts, bind off 5 sts, dropping marker – 90(100-110-120-130-140) sts each for front and back.

Yoke

Using same yarn and circular needle, pick up and k50(50-56-60-66-70) sts along straight top edge of left sleeve between markers, place marker, working across sts of front, (k2, p2) twice, k2, place marker, k to last 10 sts, place marker, k2, (p2, k2) twice, place marker, pick up and k50(50-56-60-66-70) sts along straight top edge of right sleeve between markers, place marker, then work across sts of back same as front – 280(300-332-360-392-420) sts.  Mark for beg of rnd with different colored marker and carry marker up. 

Next Rnd:  * K2 tog, k to 2 sts before next marker, SSK, sl marker, k2, (p2, k2) twice, sl marker, rep from * 3 times more – 272(292-324-352-384-412) sts.  Note:  When working decs, you will have to keep track of decs on sleeves and decs on front and back separately as they are worked at different intervals.  Working decs in this manner, dec 1 st each edge of sleeves every 4th rnd 6(6-5-4-3-3) times, then every other rnd 13(13-17-20-24-26) times – 10 sts remaining on each sleeve section.  AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st each side of back and front every 4th rnd  4(0-0-0-0-0) times, every other rnd 17(24-23-20-19-18) times, then EVERY rnd 0(2-8-16-22-28) times – 46 sts remaining on each back and front sections.  When all decs have been completed, drop all markers except beg of rnd marker and work even on 112 sts if necessary until armholes measure 8(8-8½-9-9½)”. 

Collar:  Purl 1 rnd forGarter Ridge.  Work even in St st for 7”.  Bind off. 

Finishing

Fold collar in half to WS and sew bound-off edge to WS of Garter Ridge.  Sew free edges of sleeves to underarms.  Fold St st section at lower edge of body in half to WS and sew cast-on edge to WS of Garter Ridge.
