BACK

With smallest straight needles, cast on 90(102-114-126-138-150) sts.

Ribbing:  Row 1 (RS):  K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 2” from beg, end on RS.  Change to largest needles and p the next row, dec 26(28-32-36-40-42) sts across – 64(74-82-90-98-108) sts.  Work even in St st until piece measures 4(4-4½-4½-5-5)” from beg, end on WS.

Dec Row (RS):  K3, k2 tog, k to last 5 sts, SSK, k3 – 62(72-80-88-96-106) sts.  Rep this dec every 1½” 3 times more – 56(66-74-82-90-100) sts.  Work even until piece measures 12(12-12½-12½-13-13)” from beg, end on WS.

Inc Row (RS):  K3, M1k, k to last 3 sts, M1k, k3 – 58(68-76-84-92-102) sts.  Rep this inc every 1” 3 times more – 64(74-82-90-98-108) sts.  Work even until piece measures 16(16-16½-16½-17-17)” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 2(3-4-4-5-5) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 2 sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 56(64-70-78-84-94) sts.

Dec Row (RS):  K3, k2 tog, k to last 5 sts, SSK, k3 – 54(62-68-76-82-92) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 1(3-4-6-7-9) times more – 52(56-60-64-68-74) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 7(7½-8-8½-8½-9)”, end on WS.

Shape Neck and Shoulders:  Next Row (RS):  Bind off 1(3-3-3-5-6) sts, k until there are 7(7-9-11-11-13) sts on RH needle, join another hank of yarn and bind off center 36 sts, k to end.  Working both sides at once with separate hanks of yarn, bind off 1(3-3-3-5-6) sts at beg of the next row, then 2(2-3-4-4-5) sts at beg of the next 4 rows.  AT THE SAME TIME, bind off 2 sts at each neck edge once, then dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row once.

FRONT

Work same as back until armholes measure 4(4½-5-5½-5½-6)”, end on WS – 52(56-60-64-68-74) sts.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  K14(16-18-20-22-25), join another hank of yarn and bind off center 24 sts, k to end.  Working both sides at once with separate hanks of yarn, bind off 3 sts at each neck edge once, 2 sts once, then dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row 4 times – 5(7-9-11-13-16) sts each side.  Work even until armholes measure 7(7½-8-8½-8½-9)”, end on WS.  Bind off 1(3-3-3-5-6) sts at each armhole edge once, then 2(2-3-4-4-5) sts twice for shoulders.

SLEEVES

With smallest needles, cast on 54 sts.  Work even in ribbing same as back for 6½”, end on RS.  Change to largest needles and p the next row, dec 14 sts across – 40 sts.  Work even in St st until sleeve measures 9(8¼-8¾-7½-7¼-7¼)”, end on WS.

Inc Row (RS):  K3, M1k, k to last 3 sts, M1k, k3 – 42 sts.  Rep this inc every 2½(1¾-1¼-1-¾-¾)” 3(5-7-9-11-13) times more – 48(52-56-60-64-68) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 18” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Cap:  Bind off 2(3-4-4-5-5) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 2 sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 40(42-44-48-50-54) sts.

Dec Row (RS):  K3, k2 tog, k to last 5 sts, SSK, k3 – 38(40-42-46-48-52) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 12(12-14-14-14-15) times more, end on WS – 14(16-14-18-20-22) sts.  Bind off 4(3-2-2-3-4) sts at beg of the next 2 rows.  Bind off remaining 6(10-10-14-14-14) sts.

FINISHING

Sew shoulder seams.  Sew in sleeves.  Sew side and sleeve seams.

Collar:  With size 7 (4.50 mm) needles, cast on 32 sts.  Work even in Pat St for Collar until 36 rows have been completed 6 times (216 rows), then rep Rows 1 and 2 once more, end on WS.  Weave sts on needle tog with cast-on sts.  Note:  If preferred, you may bind off sts then sew bound-off edge and cast-on edge tog.  Sew side edge of collar to neck edge so that RS of collar folds back to RS, having seam at center back neck.
