Straight knitting needles, sizes 7 (4.50 mm) and 9 (5.50 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

16” length circular knitting needle, size 7 (4.50 mm)

Gauge

18 sts = 4”; 26 rows = 4” in St st on larger needles

Note:  Both stitch and row gauge are extremely important to ensure that your garment pieces measure the same as the schematic.

Jasper stripes naturally.  This means that the stripes will not match up at seams

Back

With smaller straight needles, cast on 95(99-103-109-117-127-135) sts.

Ribbing:  Row 1 (RS):  K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 1 3/4” from beg, end on RS.  Change to larger needles and p the next row, dec 18 sts across – 77(81-85-91-99-109-117) sts.  Work even in St st until piece measures 4” from beg, end on WS.

Dec Row (RS):  K2, SSK, k to last 4 sts, k2 tog, k2.  Rep this dec every 1” 4 times more – 67(71-75-81-89-99-107) sts.  Work even until piece measures 10” from beg, end on WS.

Inc Row (RS):  K2, M1k, k to last 2 sts, M1k, k2.  Rep this inc every 1” 4 times more – 77(81-85-91-99-109-117) sts.  Work even until piece measures 15” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Raglan Armholes:  Bind off 4(4-5-6-8-8-12) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 69(73-75-79-83-93-93) sts.

Dec Row (RS):  K1, SSK, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 67(71-73-77-81-91-91) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 14(18-17-19-22-29-29) times more, then every 4th row 5(3-4-4-3-0-0) times, end on WS.  Bind off remaining 29(29-31-31-31-33-33) sts.

Front

Work same as for back until piece measures 15” from beg, end on WS – 77(81-85-91-99-109-117) sts.  Note:  Please read through the next section before starting to knit.

Shape Raglan Armholes:  Bind off 4(4-5-6-8-8-12) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 69(73-75-79-83-93-93) sts.

For Sizes 2X and 3X ONLY:  Dec Row (RS):  K1, SSSK, k to last 4 sts, k3 tog, k1 – 89(89) sts

For ALL Sizes:  Dec Row (RS):  K1, SSK, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 67(71-73-77-81-87-87) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 15(19-18-20-23-26-26) times, then every 4th row 3(1-2-2-1-0-0) times.  AT THE SAME TIME, (before all armhole decs have been completed), when armholes measure approximately 6(6-6 1/2-7-7 1/2-8-8)” and there are 43(43-45-45-45-47-47) sts on needle, end on WS.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  K1, SSK, k9, join another ball of yarn and bind off center 21(21-23-23-23-25-25) sts, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 10 sts on each side.  Working both sides at once, continue to dec at armholes and AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row 5 times.  When all armhole and neck decs have been completed, fasten off last st each side.

Left Sleeve

With smaller straight needles, cast on 37(37-37-39-39-41-41) sts.  Work in ribbing same as back for 1 3/4”, end on WS.  Change to larger needles and work even in St st until sleeve measures 2”, end on WS.

Inc Row (RS):  K1, M1k, k to last st, M1k, k1.  Rep this inc every 1 3/4(1 3/4-1 1/2-1 1/2-1-1-1 )” 8(8-10-11-13-14-14) times more – 55(55-59-63-67-71-71) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 18” from beg, end on WS.

Note: Due to the shaping of cap (see schematic), decs are worked differently at each edge.  You must keep track of each edge separately.  Please read through this entire section before starting to knit.

Shape Raglan Cap:  Bind off 4(4-5-6-8-8-12) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 47(47-49-51-51-55-47) sts.

Next Row (RS):  K1, SSK, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 45(45-47-49-49-53-45) sts.  Continuing to work decs in this manner (k1, SSK at beg of rows and k2 tog, k1 at end of rows), work decs at beg of RS rows every RS row 12(12-13-13-12-15-7) times more, then every 4th row 6(6-6-7-8-7-11) times.  AT THE SAME TIME, work decs at end of RS rows every RS row 15(15-16-16-15-17-9) times more, then every 4th row 3(3-3-4-5-5-9) times.  When all decs at end of RS rows have been completed, continue to work decs at beg of RS rows.  AT THE SAME TIME, bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 3 WS rows.

Right Sleeve

Work to correspond to left sleeve, reversing cap shaping.  After working bind-offs, work decs given for beg of RS rows at end of RS rows and decs given for end of RS rows at beg of RS rows.  When all decs at beg of RS rows have been completed, continue to work decs at end of RS rows.  AT THE SAME TIME, bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 3 RS rows.

Finishing

Sew raglan sleeve caps to raglan armholes.  Sew side and sleeve seams.

Turtleneck:  With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at center back neck, pick up and k15(15-16-16-16-17-17) sts across back neck edge to seam, 9 sts along top of left sleeve, 10 sts along left front neck edge, 21(21-23-23-23-25-25) sts across front neck edge, 10 sts along right front neck edge, 9 sts along top of right sleeve, then 16(16-17-17-17-18-18) sts across remaining back neck edge – 90(90-94-94-94-98-98) sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in k1, p1 ribbing for 9”.  Bind off loosely in ribbing.
