6(7-8-9-10-11) Hanks Berroco Lustra (100 grs), #3163 Bergamot

29” Length circular knitting needles, sizes 5 (3.75 mm) and 7 (4.50 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Straight knitting needles, size 7 (4.50 mm)

Seven 1” buttons
 

Gauge

21 sts = 4”; 24 rows = 4” in Pat St on larger needles

26 sts = 4”; 28 rows = 4” in k2, p2 ribbing on smaller needles

Note

The body of this garment is worked in one piece to the underarms, then divided for back and fronts.  After shoulder seams are sewn, sleeves are picked up and worked down.
 

Pattern Stitch (Even number of sts)

Row 1 (RS):  K1, * yo, k2, sl yo over k2, rep from * to last st, end k1.

Row 2:  Purl.

Rep these 2 rows for Pat St
 

Body

With smaller circular needle, cast on 198(226-250-278-302-330) sts.  DO NOT join.

Ribbing:  Row 1 (RS):  K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 2½” from beg, end on RS.  Change to larger circular needle and p the next row, dec 38(44-48-54-58-64) sts as evenly spaced across as possible – 160(182-202-224-244-266) sts.  Work even in Pat St until piece measures 13½(13½-14-14-14½-14½)” from beg, end on WS.

Divide For Armholes:  Next Row (RS):  Using straight needle, work 25(31-35-41-46-52) sts, turn leaving remaining 135(151-167-183-198-214) sts on circular needle for back and left front.  Turn.
 

Right Front

Beg with a WS row, work even in Pat St until piece measures 5(5½-6-6-6½-7)” above sts on circular needle, end on WS.

Shape Neck:  Bind off 6 sts at beg of the next RS row, 2 sts at beg of the next 3 RS rows, then dec 1 st at beg of every RS row once – 12(18-22-28-33-39) sts.  Work even until piece measures 7½(8-8½-8½-9-9½)” above sts on longer circular needle, end on WS.  Bind off for right shoulder.
 

Back

With RS facing, join yarn to first st on circular needle.  Using straight needle, bind off 26 sts (right armhole), then work until there are 58(68-80-90-100-110) sts on RH needle, leaving remaining 51(57-61-67-72-78) sts on circular needle for left armhole and left front.   Work even until piece measures 7½(8-8½-8½-9-9½)” above bound-off sts, end on WS.  Bind off for back shoulders and neck.
 

Left Front

With RS facing, join yarn to first st on circular needle.  Bind off 26 sts (left armhole), then work to end – 25(31-35-41-46-52) sts.  Turn.  Work even until piece measures 5(5½-6-6-6½-7)” above bound-off sts, end on RS.

Shape Neck:  Bind off 6 sts at beg of the next WS row, 2 sts at beg of the next 3 WS rows, then dec 1 st at beg of the next WS row – 12(18-22-28-33-39) sts.  Work even until piece measures 7½(8-8½-8½-9-9½)” above bound-off sts, end on WS.  Bind off for left shoulder.  Sew shoulder seams.
 

Sleeves

With RS facing, using smaller circular needle, beg at center of sts bound off for armhole, pick up and k98(106-110-110-118-126) sts around entire armhole edge.  DO NOT join.  Beg with Row 2, work back and forth in ribbing same as body until sleeve measures 1”, end on WS.  Dec 1 st each side on next row, then every 2(1½-1¼-1¼-1-¾)” 9(13-15-15-19-23) times more – 78 sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 20½” from beg, end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing.
 

Finishing

Sew sleeve seams. 

Neckband:  With RS facing, using smaller circular needle, beg at right front edge, pick up and k24 sts along right front neck edge, 36 sts across back neck edge, then 24 sts along left front neck edge – 84 sts.

Row 1 (WS):   P3, * k2, p2, rep from * to last 3 sts, end p3.

Row 2:  K3, * p2, k2, rep from * to last 3 sts, end k3.  Rep these 2 rows until band measures 1”, end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing.

Left Frontband:  With RS facing, using smaller circular needle, beg at top of neckband on left front, pick up and k126(130-138-138-146-150) sts along left front edge.  Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as body for 2”, end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing. 

Right Frontband:  Beg at lower right edge, work to correspond to left frontband for 1”, end on WS.

Buttonhole Row (RS):  Work 8(10-8-8-9-11) sts, bind off 2 sts, * work until there are 16(16-18-18-19-19) sts on RH needle after bound-off sts, bind off 2 sts, rep from * 5 times more, work to end.

Next Row:  Work in ribbing as established, cast on 2 sts over each pair of sts bound off on previous row.  Complete to correspond to left frontband.  Sew on buttons.
