Squiddy is knit and felted in Peruvia.

Size
Approximately 5” across x 10” long (after felting)
Materials
1 Hank each Berroco Peruvia (100 grs), #7143 Aquamarina (A) and #7122 Avocado (B)
Straight knitting needles, size 10 1/2 (7.00 mm)
2 Double pointed knitting needles (dpn), size 10 ½ (7.00 mm)
Two 12mm plastic doll safety eyes
Small amount polyester filling
Tapestry needle

Body
Note: Work inc 1 by knitting through front, then back loop of the next st.
With straight needles, using A, cast on 11 sts. (This is the bottom)
Row 1 (RS): Knit.
Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl.
Row 3: K3, inc 1, k3, inc 1, k3 – 13 sts.
Row 5: K4, inc 1, k3, inc 1, k4 – 15 sts.
Row 7: K4, inc 1, k5, inc 1, k4 – 17 sts.
Row 9: K5, inc 1, k5, inc 1, k5 – 19 sts.
Row 11: K6, inc 1, k5, inc 1, k6 – 21 sts.
Row 13: K6, inc 1, k7, inc 1, k6 – 23 sts.
Row 15: K7, inc 1, k7, inc 1, k7 – 25 sts.
Row 17: Knit.
Row 19: K7, k2 tog, k7, k2 tog, k7 – 23 sts.
Row 21: K6, k2 tog, k7, k2 tog, k6 – 21 sts.
Row 23: K6, k2 tog, k5, k2 tog, k6 – 19 sts.
Row 25: K5, k2 tog, k5, k2 tog, k5 – 17 sts.
Row 27: K4, k2 tog, k5, k2 tog, k4 – 15 sts.
Row 29: (K3, k2 tog) 3 times – 12 sts.
Row 31: (K2, k2 tog) 3 times – 9 sts.
Row 33: (K1, k2 tog) 3 times – 6 sts. Bind off leaving a 17” long tail for sewing.
Tentacles
Large (Make 4)
With dpn’s, using B, cast on 4 sts. Work I-Cord as follows:
Row 1: * K4, do not turn work. Slide sts to beg of needle to work next row from RS. Rep from * until cord measures 4”. Bind off leaving a 5” long end for sewing.
Small (Make 4)
With dpn’s, using B, cast on 3 sts. Work same as large tentacles.
Feeder Tentacles (Make 2)
With dpn’s, using B, cast on 5 sts leaving a 6” long end at beg for sewing. Work same as large tentacles for 5 1/2”. From here, Work back and forth.
Rows 1 and 2: Knit.
Row 3: K2, inc 1, k2 – 6 sts.
Row 4: K1, inc 1, k2, inc 1, k1 – 8 sts.
Rows 5 and 6: Knit.
Row 7: K1, k2 tog, k5 – 7 sts.
Row 8: K1, k2 tog, k4 – 6 sts.
Row 9: K1, k2 tog, k3 – 5 sts.
Row 10: K1, k2 tog, k2 – 4 sts.
Row 11: K1, k2 tog, k1 – 3 sts.
Row 12: K1, k2 tog – 2 sts. Bind off.
Fins (Make 2)
With straight needles, using B, cast on 5 sts.
Rows 1 and 2: Knit.
Row 3: K2, inc 1, k2 – 6 sts.
Row 4: Knit.
Row 5: K1, inc 1, k2, inc 1, k1 – 8 sts.
Rows 6 and 7: Knit.
Row 8: K1, k2 tog, k5 – 7 sts.
Row 9, 11, 13 and 15: Knit.
Row 10: K1, k2 tog, k4 – 6 sts.
Row 12: K1, k2 tog, k3 – 5 sts.
Row 14: K1, k2 tog, k2 – 4 sts.
Row 16: K1, k2 tog, k1 – 3 sts.
Row 17: K1, k2 tog – 2 sts. Bind off.
Finishing
Fold body in half lengthwise and sew back seam leaving 1” open at bottom for stuffing. Fasten on eyes using directions from package. Stuff body lightly with polyester filling. Sew bottom opening closed. Sew tentacles to bottom with 2 feeder tentacles in the center and the 8 large and small tentacles around them. Sew fins to each side of body 1” down from top. Felt lightly in washing machine using hot water and soap. Check often. When piece reaches recommended size, remove from washer, rinse well with cold water, shape by hand and allow to air dry.
