Pike

Pike is a knit wrap vest with cable detail and moss stitch.


Sizes

Directions are for women’s size Small.  Changes for sizes Medium and Large are in parentheses.


Finished Measurements

Bust – 43(45-47)” across (from one front edge around to the other)

Length – 17 1/2(18-18 1/2)” from lower edge of side seam to shoulder

Note:  This garment is very forgiving and each size will fit multiple sizes, depending on the amount of overlap you want.

Straight knitting needles, size 10 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauges

17 sts = 4”;  26 rows = 4” in Moss St on size 10 needles

15 sts = 2 1/2”;  26 rows = 4” in Cable Pat on size 10 needles

Back of this garment is worked from the bottom up.  Fronts are worked from side to side from front edge to side edge.

CB10

Sl 5 sts to cn and hold in BACK, k5, then k5 from cn

Moss Stitch (Worked over an even number of sts)

Row 1 (RS):  * K1, p1, rep from * across.

Row 2:  * P1, k1, rep from * across.

Row 3:  Rep Row 2.

Braided Cable Pattern (Worked over 15 sts)

Row 1 (RS):  K15.

Row 2 and all WS rows:  P15.

Row 3:  K15.

Back

With straight needles, cast on 64(68-72) sts.

Establish Pat Sts:  Row 1 (RS):  Work Row 1 of Moss St over 22(24-26) sts, place marker, k20, place marker, work Row 1 of Moss St to end.

Row 2:  Work Row 2 of Moss St to 1st marker, p to next marker, work Row 2 of Moss St to end.  Work even in pats as established until piece measures 1” from beg, end on WS.

Dec Row (RS):  Work to 1st marker, sl marker, k2 tog, k to 2 sts before next marker, SSK, sl marker, work to end – 62(66-70) sts.  Rep this dec every 6th row 3 times more, then every 8th row 4 times – 48(52-56) sts.  Drop markers and, working all sts in Moss St, work even until piece measures 10” from beg, end on WS.  Mark beg and end of last row for beg of armholes.  Work even until armholes measure 6(6 1/2-7)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders:  Bind off 2(4-3) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 3(3-4) sts at beg of the next 6 rows.  Bind off remaining 26 sts for back neck.


Left Front

With straight needles, cast on 108(112-116) sts.

Establish Pat Sts:  Row 1 (RS):  Work Row 1 of Moss St over 80(84-88) sts, p1, place marker, work Row 1 of  Braided Cable Pat over 15 sts, place marker, p12.

Row 2:  K to 1st marker, work Row 2 of Braided Cable Pat to 2nd marker, k1, work Row 2 of Moss St to end.  Work even in pats as established until piece measures 12(12 1/2-13)” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armhole:  Next Row (RS):  Work 43 sts, sl remaining 65(69-73) sts on holder.  Work even in Moss St until piece measures 4” above sts on holder, end on WS.  Bind off.  With RS facing, sl 65(69-73) sts from holder back onto straight needle and join yarn.

Next Row (RS):  Bind off 3(4-5) sts, work to end – 62(65-68) sts.  Continuing to work in pat as established, bind off 3(4-5) sts at beg of each RS row 2(1-1) times more, 3 sts at beg of each RS row 0(1-1) time more, 2 sts at beg of each RS row 6 times, then dec 1 st at beg of each RS row 4 times, end on WS – 40(42-44) sts 

Shape Shoulder:  Next Row (RS):  Bind off 12(14-16) sts, work to end – 28 sts. 

Collar:  Work even in pat as established for 3”, end on WS.  Bind off.


Right Front

With straight needles, cast on 108(112-116) sts.

Establish Pat Sts:  Row 1 (RS):  P12, place marker, work Row 1 of Braided Cable Pat over 15 sts, place marker, p1, work Row 1 of Moss St over 80(84-88) sts.

Row 2:  Work Row 2 of Moss St to 1 st before 1st marker, k1, work Row 2 of Braided Cable Pat to next marker, k to end.  Work even in pats as established until piece measures 12(12 1/2-13)” from beg, end on RS.

Shape Armhole:  Next Row (RS):  Work 65(69-73) sts and sl them onto holder, work to end – 43 sts.  Work even in Moss St until piece measures 4” above sts on holder, end on WS.  Bind off.  With WS facing, sl sts from holder onto straight needle and join yarn.

Next Row (WS):  Bind off 3(4-5) sts, work to end – 62(65-68) sts.  Continuing to work in pat as established, bind off 3(4-5) sts at beg of each WS row 2(1-1) times more, 3 sts at beg of each WS row 0(1-1) time, 2 sts at beg of each WS row 6 times, then dec 1 st at beg of each WS row 4 times, end on RS – 40(42-44) sts.

Shape Shoulder:  Next Row (WS):  Bind off 12(14-16) sts, work to end – 28 sts. 

Collar:  Work even in pat as established for 3”, end on WS.  Bind off.


Finishing

Sew shoulder and side seams, matching letters shown on schematic.  Sew bound-off edges of collars tog.  Sew inner edges of collar to back neck edge.  With RS facing, using tapestry needle, embroider chain st around each armhole 1 st in from edge.
