Bag

With circular needle, using 2 strands of MC held tog, cast on 120 sts.  Join, being careful not to twist sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.

Rnd 1:  K62, place marker, k to end.  Purl 1 rnd, knit 1 rnd, purl 1 rnd.  Fasten off one strand of MC and work even in St st (k EVERY rnd) with single strand until piece measures 10” from beg.

Form Dowel Pocket:  Next Rnd:  * K1, yo, rep from * to marker, k to end.

Following Rnd:  Knit, slipping all yo’s to spare circular needle.  Leaving yo’s on spare needle, work even in St st for 2”.  Return to yo’s on spare needle, join another strand of MC and work even in St st for 1”.  Note:  The difference between the outer section of pocket (2”) and inner section (1”) allows the bag to fold over more easily.

Joining Rnd:  * Insert point of original circular needle through 1st st and through yo on spare needle and k2 tog, rep from * until all yo’s have been worked, k to end – 120 sts.  Work even in St st for 10”.  Dropping markers, slip first 60 sts to spare needle – 60 sts on each needle.

Bind-off:  * Insert point of needle through 1st st on each needle and k2 tog, repeat from *, then bind off 1st st.  Repeat until all sts are bound off.

Finishing

Stuff plastic bag lightly into dowel pocket.  This will keep pocket open during felting process.  Felt bag in washing machine, using hot water and soap.  Check often, removing when piece reaches desired measurements.  Shape by hand and allow to air dry.  Remove bag and insert dowel into dowel pocket.  Sew ends of pocket together to hold dowel in place.  Optional:  Embroider front flap of bag using CC as shown (see video).  Decorative pin may be used in place of embroidery if desired.
