Ribbing: Row 1 (RS): K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.
Row 2: P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 1½" from beg, end on RS. Change to MC and p the next row, dec 30(32-34-36) sts as evenly spaced across as possible - 44(46-48-50) sts. Work even in Garter St until piece measures 9(9½-10-10½)" from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 2 sts at beg of the next 2 rows - 40(42-44-46) sts. Dec 1 st each side every RS row twice - 36(38-40-42) sts. Work even until armholes measure 4½(5-5½-6)", end on WS.
Shape Shoulders: Bind off 3(4-4-3) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 3(3-3-4) sts at beg of the next 4 rows. Sl remaining 18(18-20-20) sts to holder for hood.
Left Front
With CC, cast on 50(50-54-54) sts. Work in ribbing same as back for 1½", end on RS. Change to MC and p the next row, dec 21(20-23-22) sts as evenly spaced across as possible - 29(30-31-32) sts. Work even in Garter St until piece measures 9(9½-10-10½)" from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armhole: Bind off 2 sts at beg of the next row, k to end - 27(28-29-30) sts. Dec 1 st at same edge every RS row twice - 25(26-27-28) sts. Work even until armhole measures 3½(4-4½-5)", end on RS.
Shape Neck: Next Row (WS): K12(12-13-13) sts, sl these sts to holder for hood, k to end - 13(14-14-15) sts. Dec 1 st at neck edge EVERY row 4 times. Work even on 9(10-10-11) sts until armhole measures 4½(5-5½-6)", end on WS. Bind off 3(4-4-3) sts at armhole edge once, then 3(3-3-4) sts twice for shoulder.
Right Front
Work same as left front until piece measures 8(8½-9-9½)" from beg, end on WS.
Buttonhole Row (RS): K3, yo, k2 tog, k5, yo, k2 tog, k to end - 29(30-31-32) sts. Rep this row every 2½" twice more. AT THE SAME TIME, complete right front to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping. Bind off for armhole and shoulder on WS rows. Sl hood sts to holder on RS row after knitting them.
Sleeves
With CC, cast on 38(38-42-42) sts. Work in ribbing same as back for 1½", end on RS. Change to MC and p the next row, dec 16(16-18-18) sts as evenly spaced across as possible - 22(22-24-24) sts. Work in Garter St, inc 1 st each side every 1¼" 5(6-6-7) times - 32(34-36-38) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 9(10-11-12)" from beg, end on WS.
Shape Cap: Bind off 2 sts at beg of the next 2 rows - 28(30-32-34) sts. Dec 1 st each side every 4th row 0(1-2-3) times, then every RS row 12(12-10-10) times, end on WS. Bind off remaining 4(4-8-8) sts.
Finishing
Sew shoulder seams.
Hood: With RS facing, sl 12(12-13-13) sts from right front holder to needle, join MC, pick up and k10 sts along right front neck edge, k18(18-20-20) sts from back holder, increasing 2 sts across, pick up and k10 sts along left front neck edge, then k12(12-13-13) sts from left front holder - 64(64-68-68) sts. Knit 3 rows. Bind off 6 sts at beg of the next 2 rows - 52(52-56-56) sts. Work even until hood measures 2(2½-3-3½)", end on WS.
Inc Row1 (RS): K25(25-27-27), M1k, k2, M1k, k to end - 54(54-58-58) sts. Work 3 rows even.
Inc Row 2 (RS): K26(26-28-28), M1k, k2, M1k, k to end - 56(56-60-60) sts. Work even until hood measures 7½(8-8½-9)", end on WS.
Shape Top: Row 1 (RS): K27(27-29-29), place marker, k2, place marker, k to end. Work 1 row even.
Dec Row (RS): K to 2 sts before marker, k2 tog, sl marker, k2, sl marker, SSK, k to end - 54(54-58-58) sts. Rep this dec every 4th row once more, then every RS row 4 times, end on WS, dropping markers - 44(44-48-48) sts.
Next Row: K22(22-24-24), turn. Bind off 3 sts, k to end. Turn and bind off 19(19-21-21) sts. With RS facing, join MC in first st on needle. Bind off 3 sts, k to end. Turn, bind off remaining 19(19-21-21) sts. Fold hood in half lengthwise and sew top seam. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew on buttons.
