20 sts = 4"; 27 rows = 4" in St st and Pat St

Note

This garment is worked all in one piece from lower back edge to lower front edge.

 

Pattern Stitch (Multiple of 10 sts)

Rows 1 - 6:  * K5, p5, rep from * across.

Rows 7 - 12:  * P5, k5, rep from * across.

Rep these 12 rows for Pat St.

 

BACK

With circular needle, cast on 52(56-58-60) sts.  DO NOT join.

Establish Pat St:  Row 1 (RS):  K11(13-14-15), place marker, work Row 1 of Pat St over 30 sts, place marker, k to end.

Row 2:  P to first marker, work Row 2 of Pat St to last marker, p to end.  Work even in pat as established until piece measures 7(7½-8-8½)" from beg, end on WS.

 

Sleeves

Cast on 38(40-43-45) sts at beg of the next 2 rows - 128(136-144-150) sts.

Row 1 (RS):  P1, k1, p1, place marker, k to next marker, work in Pat St as established to next marker, k to last 3 sts, place marker, p1, k1, p1.

Row 2:  K1, p1, k1, p to next marker, work in Pat St as established to next marker, p to last marker, k1, p1, k1.  Work even in pat as established until piece measures 4(4-4½-4½)" above cast-on sts, end on WS.

Shape Back Neck:  Next Row (RS):  P1, k1, p1, k to next marker, work 5(5-4-4) sts in Pat St as established, join another ball of yarn and bind off center 20(20-22-22) sts for back neck work to end in pat as established - 54(58-61-64) sts each side.  Working both sides at once, work even until piece measures 2(2-2½-2½)" above bound-off sts, end on WS.

Shape Left Front Neck:  Next Row (RS):  Work 54(58-61-64) sts, with straight needle,  cast on 15(15-17-17) sts, work to end, leaving first 54(58-61-64) sts on circular needle for right front - 69(73-78-81) sts..

Following Row (WS):  K1, p1, k1, p to next marker, work in Pat St to end.  Work even in pat as established until piece measures 2(2-2½-2½)" above cast-on sts, end on RS.

End of Sleeve:  Bind off 38(40-43-45) sts, work to end - 31(33-35-36) sts.  Work even in pat as established until piece measures 7(7½-8-8½)" above bound-off sts, end on WS.  Bind off.  Mark placement of 6 buttons along front edge, the first 1" below neck edge, the last 1" up from lower edge and the others evenly spaced between.

 

Right Front

With WS facing, using straight needles, join yarn in first st on circular needle (at neck edge), cast on 15(15-17-17) sts, work to end - 54(58-61-64) sts.

Next Row (RS):  P1, k1 p1, k to next marker, work in Pat st to end.  Work even in pat as established until piece measures 1" above cast-on sts, end on WS.

Buttonhole Row (RS):  Work to last 5 sts, yo, work 2 sts tog, work 3 sts.  Complete to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping and making 5 more buttonholes opposite markers on left front edge.  Bind off for end of sleeve on RS row.

 

Finishing

Sew side and sleeve seams.  Sew on buttons.
