Cable Pattern A (Worked over 10 sts)

Row 1 (RS):  (P2, k2) twice, p2.

Row 2 and all WS rows:  (K2, p2) twice, k2.

Row 3:  P2, sl 4 sts to cn and hold in FRONT, k2, sl the 2 purl sts from cn back to LH needle, move cn to BACK of work;  p2 from LH needle, k2 from cn, then p2.

Rows 5 and 7:  Rep Row 1.

Row 8:  Rep Row 2.

Cable Pattern B (Worked over 32 sts)

Row 1 (RS):  K2, p12, CF4, p12, k2.

Back

With smaller needles, cast on 58(62-70) sts.

Ribbing:  Row 1 (RS):  K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 1 1/2” from beg, end on RS.  Change to larger needles and p the next row, dec 5 sts across – 53(57-65) sts.  Work even  in Textured Pat until piece measures 4 1/2(5-5 1/2)” from beg, end on WS.  Mark beg and end of last row for beg of armholes.  Work even until armholes measure 4(4 1/2-5)”, end on WS.  Bind off.

Button Band:  Measure in 2  3/4(3-3  1/2)” from left side and mark bound-off edge.  With RS facing, using smaller straight needles, beg at marker, pick up and k24(24-28) sts along bound-off edge to left side.  Work even in k2, p2 ribbing for 3/4”, end on WS.  Bind off.

 

Front

Work same as back until piece measures 1 1/2” from beg, end on RS – 58(62-70) sts.  Change to larger needles and p the next row, inc 16(18-16) sts across – 74(80-86) sts.

Establish Pat Sts:  Row 1 (RS):  K2(1-0), work Row 1 of Textured Pat over 9(13-17) sts, place marker, work Row 1 of Cable Pat A over 10 sts, work Row 1 of Cable Pat B over 32 sts, work Row 1 of Cable Pat A over 10 sts, work Row 1 of Textured Pat over 9(13-17) sts, k2(1-0).

Row 2:  P2(1-0), work Row 2 of Textured Pat to 1st marker, work Row 2 of Cable Pat A over 10 sts, work Row 2 of Cable Pat B over 32 sts, work Row 2 of Cable Pat A over 10 sts, work Row 2 of Textured Pat over 9(13-17) sts, p2(1-0).  Work even in pats as established until piece measures 4 1/2(5-5 1/2)” from beg, end on WS.  Mark beg and end of last row for beg of armholes.  Work even until armholes measure 3(3 1/2-4)”, end on WS.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  Work 29(30-33) sts, join another ball of yarn and bind off center 16(20-20) sts, work to end.  Working both sides at once, bind off 3 sts at each neck edge once, 2 sts once, then dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row once – 23(24-27) sts each side.  When armholes measure 3 3/4(4 1/4 - 4 3/4)”, end on RS.

Buttonhole Band:  Next Row (WS):  Bind off 23(24-27) sts with 1st ball of yarn, right shoulder; with 2nd ball, work across 23(24-27) sts, inc 1 st at end – 24(24-28) sts.  Work even in k2, p2 ribbing for 1/4”, end on WS.

Buttonhole Row (RS):  Work 3(3-5) sts, * yo, k2 tog, work 6 sts, rep from * once more, yo, k2 tog, work to end.  Work even in ribbing as established until band measures 3/4”, end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing.  Sew right shoulder seam.

Neckband:  With RS facing, using larger needles, beg at edge of buttonhole band, pick up and k56(62-62) sts around entire neck edge.  Knit 2 rows.  Bind off knitwise on WS.  Sew buttons to button band and button shoulder.

 

Sleeves

With RS facing, using larger needles, pick up and k49(57-61) sts along armhole edge between markers (working through double thickness of shoulder bands for left sleeve).  Beg with Row 2, work even in Textured Pat for 1”, end on WS.  Dec 1 st each side of next row, then every 1/2” 6(8-8) times more – 35(39-43) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 4¾(5¾-6¾)” from beg, end on WS, dec 1 st at end of last row – 34(38-42) sts.  Change to smaller needles and work even in ribbing same as back for 3/4”, end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing.

 

Finishing

Sew side and sleeve seams.
