Dear Knitters and Crocheters,
Today we will go to our website
to view our new collection of
yarns and patterns for Fall/Winter 2004-05.
Our design team has been working for months on the biggest and
best collection I have ever seen. I can't remember ever falling
in love with so many yarns in one season. Perhaps it's because
of all the sparkle and shine, the real, true colors and the ultra-soft
touch of the finest techno and natural fibers.
We are introducing 9 new yarns,
new colors in your favorite existing yarns and 4 new pattern books
full of great projects for you, your home and your family. In
the next months, I will discuss and show in detail every bit of
what makes this coming knitting season so spectacular. I'd like
to show you 2 new soft yarns we've developed for knitting for
you or for baby.
LULLABY
is a softer than soft ribbon yarn with the microfiber touch of
Dupont Tactel ® nylon. It's available in 7
kid conscious spacedyed colorways. Knit an
adorable pullover for a baby girl or boy, or choose from an
assortment of LULLABY patterns.
The stitch gauge is 4 1/2 stitches per inch on #8 needle, so there
are lots of great patterns available at this popular gauge.
HUSH
is a companion to LULLABY for great nursery knits. This soft,
furry chainette yarn is dyed
to match our LULLABY shades. Knit up a delightful
patch of cozy fur for baby to snuggle up in, or choose from
our other beautiful patterns
knit in HUSH. The stitch gauge is 3 stitches per inch on a
#11 needle. You can knit a baby blanket in practically no time.
Linda Daniels from Northampton,
Massachusetts has created a very easy SUEDE poncho based on our
popular Oakley Shawl from
book #225. Hers is a poncho made up of two simple garter stitch
triangles that are joined at the shoulder seams, leaving a neck
opening. Then it is fringed, of course! We call it Linda
Poncho and I knit it this weekend in a great new shade of
green SUEDE called Tonto. It will be a great cover-up for a summer
evening over a tank top or you can wear it as shown over a turtleneck
for fall.
Perhaps you are planning a vacation this summer and you will want
a few knitting projects to take along. You can get some "on
the go" ideas by browsing our
Scarf Central. We have posted a dozen new swatches with multiple
color alternatives, so have look and be inspired.
If you are anywhere in the USA, you will be able to find a Berroco
stockist here.

"I haven't knit for many years and I just rediscovered the
magic of knitting. I've started the Oakley Shawl and I am concerned
that my selvage stitches are a little loose. I am a bit of a perfectionist.
I keep ripping and re-knitting, trying to make a tighter selvage
stitch, but it isn't really any better. I am anxious to finish
this shawl so that I can wear it. What shall I do?"
Carneen, don't rip out your
work. Just relax and enjoy your new-found hobby. You can steam
it lightly with a steam iron and pressing cloth and then when
you fringe the selvage stitches this will firm them up and make
a clean finish.
Till next time, keep creating!
All the best,
Margery Winter
