MATERIALS

10(11-13-15-16) Balls BERROCO ZODIAC (50 grs), #9607 Luna

Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 and 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

29” Length circular knitting needle, size 6

Optional:  Decorative pin for closure

GAUGE

20 sts = 4”;  28 rows = 4” in St st on size 8 needles

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

BACK

With smaller straight needles, cast on 99(109-119-129-139) sts.

Ribbing:  Row 1 (RS):  K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows once more, end on WS, dec 19 sts across last row – 80(90-100-110-120) sts.  Change to larger needles and work even in St st until piece measures 2” from beg, end on WS.  Dec 1 st each end of next row, every 1 1/2” once, then every 1” 3 times – 70(80-90-100-110) sts.  Work even until piece measures 8 1/2” from beg, end on WS.  Inc 1 st each end of next row, then every 3/4” 4 times more – 80(90-100-110-120) sts.  Work even until piece measures 12 1/2” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 5(5-6-8-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 70(80-88-94-102) sts.  Dec 1 st each side every RS row 5(10-11-12-13) times – 60(60-66-70-76) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 7 1/2(7 1/2-8-8 1/2-9)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders:   Bind off 3(3-3-4-4) sts at beg of the next 4 rows, then 3(3-4-4-5) sts at beg of the next 6 rows.  Bind off remaining 30 sts.

LEFT FRONT

With smaller straight needles, cast on 73(79-85-91-97) sts.  Work in ribbing same as back for 4 rows, dec 13(14-15-16-17) sts across last row, end on WS – 60(65-70-75-80) sts.  Change to larger needles and work even in St st until piece measures 2” from beg, end on WS.  Dec 1 st at beg of the next row, every 1 1/2” once, then every 1” 3 times – 55(60-65-70-75) sts.  Work even until piece measures 8 1/2” from beg, end on WS.  Inc 1 st at beg of next row, k to end – 56(61-66-71-76) sts. Continue to inc 1 st at side edge every 3/4” 4 times more.  AT THE SAME TIME, when piece measures 9(9 1/2-10-10 1/2)” from beg, end on RS, then shape neck as follows:

Shape Neck:  Next Row (WS):  Bind off 3 sts, p to end.  Continuing to work incs at side edge, bind off 2 sts at neck edge every WS row twice, dec 1 st at neck edge EVERY row 3 times, every RS row 17 times, then every other RS row 8 times.  AT THE SAME TIME, when piece measures 12 1/2” from beg (before all neck decs have been completed), shape armhole same as back while continuing to work neck decs.  When all armhole and neck decs have been completed, work even on 15(15-18-20-23) sts until armhole measures 7 1/2(7 1/2-8-8 1/2-9)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulder:  Bind off 3(3-3-4-4) sts at armhole edge twice, then 3(3-4-4-5) sts 3 times.

RIGHT FRONT

Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping.  Work decs on body at end of RS rows.  Bind off for neck at beg of RS rows.  Work neck decs at beg of RS rows.  Bind off for armhole and shoulder at beg of WS rows.  Work armhole decs at end of RS rows.

SLEEVES

With smaller straight needles, cast on 63(63-67-73-79) sts.  Work in ribbing same as back for 1”, dec 11(11-12-13-14) sts across last row, end on WS – 52(52-55-60-65) sts.  Change to larger needles and work in St st.  Inc 1 st each side every 1/2” 4(4-5-5-5) times – 60(60-65-70-75) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 4” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Cap:  Bind off 5(5-6-8-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 50(50-53-54-57) sts.  Dec 1 st each side every RS row 16(16-14-10-8) times, then every other RS row 0(0-1-3-4) times, end on WS – 18(18-23-28-33) sts.  Bind off 2 sts at beg of the next 2 rows.  Bind off remaining 14(14-19-24-29) sts.

FINISHING

Collar:  With circular needle, cast on 285 sts.  DO NOT join. Work in ribbing same as back for 4 rows, end on WS.  Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 10 rows, 6 sts at beg of the next 4 rows, 8 sts at beg of the next 14 rows, then 10 sts at beg of the next 4 rows.  Bind off remaining 69 sts.  Sew shoulder seams.  Sew bound-off edge of collar to neck edge from bound-off sts on right front around back neck to bound-off sts on left front.  Sew in sleeves.  Sew side and sleeve seams.
