FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Approximately 10" wide x 11" tall x 2 1/2" deep (with top unfolded)
MATERIALS BERROCO SUEDE (50 grs), 3 balls #3789 Nelly Belle (A), 2 balls #3769 Sundance Kid (B) and 3 balls #3715 Tonto (C). Crochet Hook, size 2mm (B) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE. Brass bag closure Tapestry needle.
GAUGE 26 sts = 4"; 10 rows = 3" in dc pat. TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
NOTE Front and back are worked vertically.
FRONT With A, ch 75. Row 1 (RS): Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across - 72 sts. Ch 3, turn. Row 2: Dc in each st across. Ch 3, turn. Rep Row 2 for pat st and work even until piece measures 3 1/4” from beg. Change to B, ch 3, turn. Work even until piece measures 6 3/4” from beg. Change to C, ch 3, turn. Work even until piece measures 10” from beg. Fasten off.
BACK Work same as for front.
LEFT SIDE GUSSET With A, ch 75. Row 1 (RS): Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across - 72 sts. Ch 3, turn. Work even in pat st for 2 1/2”. Fasten off.
RIGHT SIDE GUSSET With C, work same as for left side gusset.
BOTTOM GUSSET With A, ch 68. Row 1 (RS): Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across – 65 sts. Ch 3, turn. Work even in pat st for 2 1/2”. Fasten off.
FINISHING Thread tapestry needle with B. Sew A side edge of front to left side gusset using running st and B. Sew A side edge of back to opposite edge of left side gusset using running st and B. Sew C side edge of front to right side gusset using running st and B. Sew C side edge of back to opposite edge of right side gusset using running st and B. Sew bottom gusset to lower edges of front, back and side gussets using running st and B. Straps (Make 1 with B and 1 with C): With crochet hook, ch 2, insert hook into the 2nd chain from the hook (i.e. the first one made) and work 1 sc; * insert the hook into the single vertical thread which forms the LH side of the previous sc and work another sc; rep from * until strap measures 20”. Fasten off. Sew one end of B strap to left side of bag front 4 1/2” down from top edge. Sew the other end of same strap to right side of bag front 4 1/2” down from top edge. In the same manner, sew ends of C strap to each side of bag back. Sew eyelet end of brass bag closure to center of bag front 1” up from lower edge. Sew the other end of bag closure to center of bag back 1” down from top edge with closure facing out. Fold bag down toward the front and fasten. |
