FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Width at center fold – 21(23)”.

MATERIALS

BERROCO ULTRA SILK (50 grs), 12(14) balls #6112 Pesto.

29” Length circular knitting needle, size 10 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

Crochet hook, size 6.00 mm (J).

 

GAUGE

19 sts = 4”;  28 rows = 4” in k3, p2 ribbing on size 10 needles.

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

 

NOTE

This shrug is made in one piece.  There is no opening for neck – you slip your arms into the sleeves with the entire piece behind your back.  Front edges of shrug are not intended to meet (see photo).

 

SHRUG

With circular needle, cast on 153(163) sts.  DO NOT join.

Row 1 (RS):  K3, * p2, k3, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P3, * k2, p3, rep from * across.  Work in ribbing as established, dec 1 st each side every RS row 19 times, end on WS – 115(125) sts.  Piece should measure approximately 5 1/2” from beg.  Mark beg and end of last row for beg of armholes.

Shape Armholes:  Dec 1 st each side of every RS row 4 times, then every other RS row 4 times – 99(109) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 5 1/2(6)”, end on WS.  Mark beg and end of last row for center of armhole.  Work even until armholes measure 2(3)” from last markers, end on WS.  Inc 1 st each side on next row, every other RS row 3 times, then every RS row 4 times, working incs in ribbing as sts become available – 115(125) sts.  Mark beg and end of last row for end of armholes.  Inc 1 st each side every RS row 19 times, end on WS – 153(163) sts.  Work even for 2 rows, then bind off all sts in ribbing.

 

FINISHING

Steam piece with hot steam iron and a pressing cloth.  Fold piece in half widthwise at center markers so that cast-on and bound-off edges are tog.  Sew side seams from cast-on and bound-off edges to first set of markers.

Sleeves:  With RS facing, using crochet hook, join yarn at side seam, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in st of armhole at base of ch-3, ch 1, work 2 dc’s in same st of armhole, * skip 1/2” on armhole, work (2 dc’s, ch 1, 2 dc’s) all in next st of armhole, rep from * around armhole, join with a sl st in ch-3.

Rnd 2:  Sl st to first ch-1 space, ch 3, work (dc, ch 1, 2 dc’s) all in same ch-1 space, * work (2 dc’s, ch 1, 2 dc’s) all in next ch-1 space, rep from * around, join with a sl st in ch-3.  Rep Rnd 2 until sleeve measures 5”.  Fasten off.

Lower Edging:  With RS facing, using crochet hook, join yarn at side seam, work around lower edge same as for sleeves for 5”.  Fasten off.
