MATERIALS

13(14-17-19-21-23) Balls BERROCO MONET (50 grs), #3352 Poisson

Straight knitting needles, size 10 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Two 1 1/2” buttons

One 1/2” metal snap

GAUGE

14 sts = 4”;  24 rows = 4” in Reverse St st on size 10 needles

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

BACK

With straight needles, cast on 71(78-85-92-99-106) sts.  Work even in Reverse St st for 6”, end on WS.  Mark beg and end of last row.

Dec Row (RS):  P1, p2 tog, p to last 3 sts, p2 tog, p1 – 69(76-83-90-97-104) sts.  Rep this dec every 1 3/4” 6 times more – 57(64-71-78-85-92) sts.  Work even until piece measures 18” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 4(5-6-7-8-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 49(54-59-64-69-74) sts.

Dec Row (RS):  P1, p2 tog, p to last 3 sts, p2 tog, p1 – 47(52-57-62-67-72) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 2(4-5-6-7-8) times more – 43(44-47-50-53-56) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 5(5-5 1/2-6-6 1/2-6 1/2)”, end on WS.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  P16(17-18-20-21-23), join another ball of yarn and bind off center 11(10-11-10-11-10) sts, p to end.  Working both sides at once, bind off 3 sts at each neck edge twice, then dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row 4 times – 6(7-8-10-11-13) sts each side.  Work even until armholes measure 7 1/2(7 1/2 -8-8 1/2-9-9)”, end on WS.  Bind off all sts each side.

LEFT FRONT

With straight needles, cast on 50(53-57-60-64-67) sts.  Work even in Reverse St st for 6”, end on WS. Mark end of last row.

Dec Row (RS):  P1, p2 tog, p to end – 49(52-56-59-63-66) sts.  Rep this dec every 1 3/4” 6 times more – 43(46-50-53-57-60) sts.  Work even until piece measures 17 1/2” from beg, end on RS.

Note:  Please read through this next section before starting to knit.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (WS):  Bind off 13(12-13-12-13-12) sts, k to end – 30(34-37-41-44-48) sts.  Dec 1 st at neck edge EVERY row 8 times, then every RS row 9 times.  AT THE SAME TIME, when piece measures 18” from beg, shape armhole same as back while continuing to work neck decs.  When all neck and armhole decs have been completed, work even on 6(7-8-10-11-13) sts until armhole measures 7 1/2(7 1/2-8-8 1/2-9-9)”, end on WS.  Bind off.

RIGHT FRONT

Work same as left front working side decs at end of RS rows.  When piece measures 13 1/2” from beg, end on WS, then make buttonhole as follows:

Buttonhole Row (RS):  P3, bind off 3 sts, p to end.

Following Row:  Knit, cast on 3 sts over sts bound off on previous row.  Make 2nd buttonhole in same manner when piece measures 16 1/2” from beg.  Complete right front to correspond to left front reversing all shaping.  Bind off for neck at beg of RS rows.  Bind off for armhole at beg of WS row.

FINISHING

Sew shoulder seams.  Sew side seams from markers to beg of armholes.  Lap right front over left front and sew buttons to left front under buttonholes.  Sew one half of snap to RS of left front at beg of neck shaping.  Sew the other half of snap to WS of right front to correspond to first half.
