BERROCO PLEASURE (50 grs), 8(9) balls #8601 Winter White (MC) for Cape, 2 balls for Hat.
BERROCO ZAP (50 grs), 3 hanks #3530 Sable (CC) for Cape, 1 hank for Hat.
24” and 36” length circular knitting needles, size 10 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
16” length circular knitting needle, size 8.
Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 and 8 for Hat.
Crochet Hook, size 3.50 mm (E) for Hat.
Cable Needle (cn).
1 St Marker.

GAUGE
16 sts = 4”; 28 rows = 4” in Reverse St st on size 10 needles with MC.
6 sts = 3/4” in Cable Pat on size 10 needles with MC.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

CAPE
With longer size 10 circular needle and CC, cast on 360(378) sts. Work back and forth in Garter St for 2”. Note: Zap edging may be worked in the round if you wish, however it is very easy to twist sts by mistake when joining. Change to MC.
Next Rnd: Knit around and join, being careful not to twist sts. Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.
Establish Cable Pat: Rnd 1: * P12, work Rnd 1 of Cable Pat over 6 sts, rep from * around.

Rows 1, 3 and 5 (WS): Purl 6.
Row 2: Knit 6.
Row 4: CB6 (See Cape Inst).
Row 6: Knit 6.
Rep these 6 rows for Cable Pat.
With smaller straight needles and CC, cast on 122(133) sts. Work even in Garter St for 1 1/2”. Change to MC and knit 1 row. Change to larger straight needles.
Establish Cable Pat: Row 1 (WS): * K5, work Row 1 of Cable Pat over 6 sts, rep from * to last st, end k1.
Row 2: P1, * work Row 2 of Cable Pat over 6 sts, p5, rep from * across. Work even in pat as established until piece measures approximately 7 1/2” from beg, end on Row 1 of Cable Pat.
Shape Crown: Dec Row 1 (RS): P1, * work Row 2 of Cable Pat over 6 sts, p2 tog, p3, rep from * across – 111(121) sts.
Next Row: * K4, work Row 3 of Cable Pat over 6 sts, rep from * to last st, end k1.

Dec Row 7 (RS): P1, * k2 tog, rep from * across – 12(13) sts. Break off yarn, leaving an end for sewing. Pull end through all sts on needle and draw up tightly. Fasten securely.

FINISHING
Steam hat with hot iron and pressing cloth on WS. Sew back seam.
Inside Edging: Turn hat inside-out. Using crochet hook, join CC at back seam. With WS of work facing you and working through front loops of sts, work in sc around bottom edge of hat, skipping 1 st over each cable. Join with a sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
