4(5-6-6) Balls BERROCO LOVE IT (50 grs), #3236 Bluefish

Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 and 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Cable needle (cn)

2 St markers

 

GAUGE

18 sts = 4”;  24 rows = 4” in St st on size 8 needles

STITCH GLOSSARY

CF9

Sl 3 sts to cn and hold in FRONT, k3, p3, then k3 from cn

CB9

Sl 6 sts to cn and hold in BACK, k3, then p3, k3 from cn

 

RIB PATTERN (Worked over 45 sts)

Row 1 (RS):  P3, * k3, p3, rep from * across.

Row 2:  K3, * p3, k3, rep from * across.

Rep these 2 rows for Rib Pat.

 

CABLE PATTERN (Worked over 21 sts)

Row 1 (RS):  K3, * p3, k3, rep from * twice more.

Row 2 and all WS rows:  K the k sts and p the p sts as they face you.

Rows 3 and 5:  Rep Row 1.

Row 7:  K3, p3, CF9, p3, k3.

Rows 9 and 11:  Rep Row 1.

Row 13:  CB9, p3, CB9.

Rows 15 and 17:  Rep Row 1.

Row 19:  Rep Row 7.

Rows 21 and 23:  Rep Row 1.

Row 24:  Rep Row 2.

These 24 rows form Cable Pat.

 

NOTE

When measuring length of front, measure at side edges.

 

BACK

With larger needles, cast on 77(85-95-103) sts.

Establish Rib Pat:  Row 1 (RS):  K16(20-25-29), place marker, work Row 1 of Rib Pat over 45 sts, place marker, k to end.

Row 2:  P to 1st marker, work Row 2 of Rib Pat to 2nd marker, p to end.  Work even in pat as established until piece measures 4”, end on WS.

Dec Row (RS):  K1, SSK, work to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 75(83-93-101) sts.  Rep this dec every 1” 3 times more – 69(77-87-95) sts.  Work even until piece measures 9” from beg, end on WS.

Inc Row (RS):  K1, M1k, work to last st, M1k, k1 – 71(79-89-97) sts.  Rep this inc every 1” 3 times more – 77(85-95-103) sts.  Work even until piece measures 13” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 3(5-7-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 71(75-81-85) sts.  Dec 1 st each side EVERY row 2(6-11-10) times, then every RS row 4(2-0-3) times, end on WS – 59 sts.

Divide for Straps:  Next Row (RS):  Dropping markers, k8, join another ball of yarn and bind off 43 sts, k to end.  Change to smaller needles and work even in Garter St on 8 sts each side until straps measure 6”, end on WS.  Bind off 8 sts each side.

 

FRONT

With larger needles, cast on 101(109-119-127) sts.

Establish Pat St:  DecRow 1 (RS):  P16(20-25-29), place marker, (p3, k3) 8 times, p2, k2 tog, place marker, k2, p3, (k3, p3) twice, place marker, p to end.

Dec Row 2:  K to 1st marker, k3, (p3, k3) twice, p2, sl marker, p2 tog, k1, p3, (k3, p3) 7 times, k3, k to end.  Continue to work in pat as established, decreasing 1 st before 2nd marker on RS and 1 st after 2nd marker on WS until there are 77(85-95-103) sts on needle and 45 sts remain between markers, end on WS.  Keeping sts on each side in Reverse St st and sts between markers in Rib Pat, work even until piece measures 4” from beg, end on WS.

Dec Row (RS):  P1, p2 tog, work to last 3 sts, p2 tog, p1 – 75(83-93-101) sts.  Rep this dec every 1” 3 times more – 69(77-87-95) sts.  Work even until piece measures  7” from beg, end on WS.

Inc Row (RS):  P1, M1p, work to last st, M1p, p1 – 71(79-89-97) sts.  Rep this inc every 1” 3 times more – 77(85-95-103) sts.  AT THE SAME TIME, when piece measures 9 1/2” from beg, (before all incs have been completed), end on WS.

Establish Cable Pat:  Next Row (RS):  Continuing to work incs at sides, p to 1st marker, p3, work Row 1 of Cable Pat over 21 sts, work Row 1 of Rib Pat to 2nd marker, p to end.

Following Row:  K to 1st marker, work Row 2 of Rib Pat over 21 sts, work Row 2 of Cable Pat over 21 sts, k3, k to end.  Work in pats as established continuing to work incs at sides.  When 24 rows of Cable Pat have been completed, work all sts between markers in Rib Pat while continuing to work incs at sides.  When all incs have been completed, work even in pat as established on 77(85-95-103) sts until piece measures 13” from beg, end on WS.  Complete same as back.

 

FINISHING

Sew bound-off ends of front straps to bound-off ends of back straps.  Sew side seams.
