We crocheted a smaller version of our Humphrey bear with a single strand of Comfort™ DK and a larger sized one with a double strand.

SIZE

Large Bear – approximately 5” tall

Small Bear – approximately 3” tall

MATERIALS

1 Ball BERROCO COMFORT DK (50 grs), #2703 Barley

Crochet hook, size 4.50 mm (G) for Large Bear

Crochet hook, size 3.50 mm (E) for Small Bear

Small amount black yarn

Polyester stuffing

Tapestry needle

NOTE 1

There are no gauge requirements for this project

NOTE 2

Use the same directions for both size bears.  Use 2 strands of yarn held tog and size 4.50 mm (G) hook for large bear.  Use 1 strand of yarn and size 3.50 mm (E) hook for small bear.

BODY

With crochet hook, ch 3, join with a sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1:  Work 6 sc into ring, join with a sl st in first sc.

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, * 2 sc in next sc, rep from * around, join with a sl st in beg ch-1 – 12 sc’s.

Rnd 3:  Ch 1, * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, rep from * around, join with a sl st in beg ch-1 – 18 sc’s.

Rnds 4, 5 and 6:  Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join with a sl st in beg ch-1.

Rnd 7:  Ch 1, * dec 1 over next 2 sc’s, sc in next sc, rep from * around, join with a sl st in beg ch-1 – 12 sc’s.

Rnds 8 and 9:  Rep Rnd 4.

Rnd 10:  Ch 1, * dec 1 over next 2 sc’s, rep from * around, join with a sl st in beg ch-1 – 6 sc’s.  Fasten off leaving a 12” long tail.

HEAD

With crochet hook, ch 3, join with a sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1:  Work 6 sc’s into ring, join with a sl st in first sc.

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, * 2 sc’s in next sc, rep from * around, join with a sl st in beg ch-1 – 12 sc’s.

Rnds 3 and 4:  Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join with a sl st in beg ch-1.

Rnd 5:  Ch 1, dec 1 over next 2 sc’s, rep from * around, join with a sl st in beg ch-1 – 6 sc’s.  Fasten off leaving a 12” long tail.

UPPER LEGS (Make 2)

With crochet hook, ch 3, join with a sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1:  Work 4 sc’s into ring, join with a sl st in first sc.

Rnds 2, 3, 4 and 5:  Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join with a sl st in beg ch-1.  Fasten off leaving a 12” long tail.

LOWER LEGS (Make 2)

With crochet hook, ch 3, join with a sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 5 sc’s into ring, join with a sl st in first sc.

Rnds 2, 3 and 4:  Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join with a sl st in beg ch-1.  Fasten off leaving a 12” long tail.

EARS (Make 2)

Place loop on hook.

Row 1:  Work 3 sc’s into loop.  Fasten off.  Tighten loop.

FINISHING

With black yarn and tapestry needle, embroider eyes, nose and mouth onto head as in photo.  Stuff body, head and legs with polyester stuffing.  Sew head to body.  Sew ears to each side of head.  Sew on upper and lower legs.
