Franko Boy is a bold basket weave pullover knit in our self striping Foliage yarn.

SIZES Directions are for children’s size 2. Changes for sizes 4, 6 and 8 are in parentheses. FINISHED MEASUREMENTSChest – 24(26-28-30)”. Length – 14(15-16-17)”. MATERIALS4(4-5-6) balls BERROCO FOLIAGE (50 grs), #5977 Palm Frond. Straight knitting needles, sizes 9 and 11 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE. Three ½” buttons. GAUGE13 sts = 4”; 18 rows = 4” in Reverse St st on size 11 needles. TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE. NOTEThe back and front of this garment are made of individual blocks. Blocks are picked up with larger needles and worked from the edges of previous blocks in the order shown on the schematic (always pick up sts with RS of previous block facing you). Arrows indicate the direction in which each block is worked. Dotted lines indicate picked-up edges. Solid lines indicate seams. BACKBlock 1: With larger needles, cast on 20(22-23-25) sts. Work even in Reverse St st for 5 1/2(6-6 1/2-7)”, end on WS. Bind off all sts. Block 2: With bound-off edge at top, pick up and k18(20-22-23) sts along left side of Block 1. Beg with a k row, work even in Reverse St st for 6(6 1/2-7-7 1/2)”, end on WS. Bind off all sts. Block 3: Pick up and k20(22-23-25) sts along right side of Block 2. Complete as for Block 1. Block 4: Pick up and k18(20-22-23) sts along right side of Block 3. Complete as for Block 2. Sew left edge of Block 4 to bound-off edge of Block 1 as on schematic. Turn completed piece so that blocks are same as on schematic and treat as one piece. Yoke: With RS facing, using larger needles, pick up and k40(44-46-50) sts evenly spaced along top edge of back. Beg with a k row, work even in Reverse St st for 1”, end on WS. Shape Neck and Shoulders: Next Row (RS): P13(14-14-16), join another ball of yarn and bind off center 14(16-18-18) sts, p to end. Working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge on next row. When yoke measure 1 1/2”, end on WS. P12(13-13-15) sts of right shoulder, then bind off 12(13-13-15) sts of left shoulder. Work even until yoke measures 2”, end on WS. Bind off all sts for right shoulder. Ribbing: With RS facing, using smaller needles, pick up and k54(58-62-66) sts evenly spaced along lower edge. Row 1 (WS): P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across. Row 2: K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows until ribbing measures 1”, end on WS. Bind off all sts in ribbing. FRONTWork same as for back until 4 blocks have been completed, then turn piece so that blocks are same as on schematic and treat as one piece. Yoke: Measure in 4 1/2(5-5-5 1/2)” from each side of back and mark for inner edges of front neck. With RS facing, using larger needles, beg at right upper corner, pick up and k15(16-16-18) sts to 1st marker, skip to next marker, then pick up and k15(16-16-18) sts to left upper corner – 15(16-16-18) sts on each side. Working both sides at once, beg with a k row, work in Reverse St st, dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row 3 times – 12(13-13-15) sts each side. When yoke measures 1 1/2”, end on WS. Bind off 12(13-13-15) sts of left shoulder. Work even on remaining sts until yoke measures 2”, end on WS. Bind off all sts for right shoulder. Sew right shoulder seam. Neckband: With RS facing, using smaller needles, beg at inner edge of left front shoulder, pick up and k58(58-62-62) sts around entire neck edge. Work in ribbing same as for back for 1”, end on WS. Bind off all sts in ribbing. Button Placket: With RS facing, using smaller needles, pick up and k18(20-20-22) sts along edge of neckband and left back shoulder. Row 1 (WS): (P2, k2) 4(5-5-5) times, p2(0-0-2). Row 2: K2(0-0-2), (p2, k2) 4(5-5-5) times. Rep these 2 rows until band measures 1”, end on WS. Bind off all sts in ribbing. Buttonband: With RS facing, using smaller needles, pick up and k18(20-20-22) sts along edge of left front shoulder and edge of neckband. Work as for button placket for 1 row, end on WS. Buttonhole Row (RS): Work 4 sts, * yo, work 2 tog, work 3(4-4-5), rep from * once more, yo, work 2 tog, work 2. Complete as for buttonband. Sew buttons to buttonband opposite buttonholes and button. Measure down 5(5 1/2-6-6 1/2)” from each shoulder on back and front and mark for armholes. Ribbing: Work as for back ribbing. SLEEVESWith RS facing, using larger needles, pick up and k34(36-40-42) sts between markers (working through double thickness of shoulder bands of left shoulder). Beg with a k row, work even in Reverse St st for 1”, end on WS. Dec Row (RS): P1, p2 tog, p to last 3 sts, p2 tog, p1 – 32(34-38-40) sts. Rep this dec every 1” 6(7-8-9) times more – 20(20-22-22) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 7 1/2(8 1/2-9 1/2-10 1/2)”, end on RS. Change to smaller needles and k the next row, inc 6(6-4-4) sts evenly spaced across – 26 sts. Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as for back for 1 1/2”, end on WS. Bind off all sts in ribbing. FINISHINGSew side and sleeve seams. |
