FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Chest – 36(40-45-51-54)”.

Length – 24(24 3/4-25 1/2-26 1/4-27)”.

 

MATERIALS

8(9-10-12-13) balls BERROCO FOLIAGE (50 grs), #5940 Night Shade.

Straight knitting needles, sizes 9 and 11 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

16” Length circular knitting needle, size 9.

1 St marker.

 

GAUGE

13 sts = 4”;  18 rows = 4” in Reverse St st on size 11 needles.

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

 

NOTE

The back and front of this garment are made of individual blocks starting with the center block.  Blocks are picked up with larger needles and worked from the edges of previous blocks in the order shown on the schematic (always pick up sts with RS of previous block facing you).  Arrows indicate the direction in which each block is worked.  Dotted lines indicate picked-up edges.  Solid lines indicate seams.

 

BACK

Block 1:  With larger needles, cast on 20(22-25-28-30) sts.  Work even in Reverse St st for 7(7 1/4-7 1/2-7 3/4-8)”, end on WS.  Bind off all sts.  This is the center block.

Block 2:  With bound-off edge at top, pick up and k23(24-25-26-27) sts along right side of Block 1.  Beg with a k row, work even in Reverse St st for 6(6 3/4-7 1/2-8 1/2-9)”, end on WS.  Bind off all sts.

Block 3:  Pick up and k23(24-25-26-27) sts along left side of Block 1.  Complete as for Block 2.

Block 4:  Pick up and k20(22-25-28-30) sts along left side of Block 3.  Beg with a k row, work even in Reverse St st for 7(7 1/4-7 1/2-7 3/4-8)”, end on WS.  Bind off all sts.

Block 5:  Pick up and k20(22-25-28-30) sts along right side of Block 2.  Complete as for Block 4.

Block 6:  Pick up and k23(24-25-26-27) sts along right side of Block 4.  Complete as for Block 2.  Sew 2 free edges of Block 6 to Blocks 5 and 1 as on schematic.

Block 7:  Pick up and k20(22-25-28-30) sts along left right side of Block 3.  Complete as for Block 1.

Block 8:  Pick up and k20(22-25-28-30) sts along left edge of Block 2.  Complete as for Block 1.

Block 9:  Pick up and k23(24-25-26-27) sts along right edge of Block 7.  Complete as for Block 2.  Sew 2 free edges of Block 9 to Blocks 7 and 8 as on schematic.

Ribbing:  With RS facing, using smaller straight needles, pick up and k70(78-86-98-102) sts evenly spaced along lower edge of back.

Row 1 (WS):  P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across.

Row 2:  K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until ribbing measures 3”, end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing.

 

FRONT

Work same as for back until Block 8 has been completed.

Block 9:  Pick up and k23(24-25-26-27) sts along right edge of Block 7.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (WS):  Bind off 4 sts, k to end – 19(20-21-22-23) sts.  Bind off 2 sts at beg of the next 2 WS rows, then dec 1 st at beg of the next 3 WS rows – 12(13-14-15-16) sts.  Work even until block measures 3 1/2(4 1/4-5-6-6 1/2)”, end on RS.  Inc 1 st at beg of the next 3 WS rows, cast on 2 sts at beg of the next 2 WS rows, then cast on 4 sts at beg of the next WS row – 23(24-24-26-27) sts.  Purl 1 row.  Bind off.  Sew 2 free edges of Block 9 to Blocks 7 and 8 as on schematic.  Work ribbing same as for back.

 

SLEEVES

With smaller straight needles, cast on 46 sts.  Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as for back for 3”, end on RS.  Change to larger needles and k the next row, dec 10 sts evenly spaced across – 36 sts.  Work in Reverse St st, inc 1 st each side every 1 1/2(1 1/4-1 1/4-1- 3/4)” 11(12-13-15-17) times – 58(60-62-66-70) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 20” from beg, end on WS.  Bind off all sts.

 

FINISHING

Sew shoulder seams.

Neckband:  With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at center back neck, pick up and k72(80-88-96-104) sts evenly spaced around neck edge.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in k2, p2 ribbing for 1”.  Bind off all sts loosely in ribbing.  Measure down 9(9 1/2-10-10 1/2-11)” from each shoulder seam on back and front and mark for armholes.  Sew in sleeves between markers.  Sew side and sleeve seams.
