FINISHING

Fold cast-on edge of bag up even with markers.  Sew one side panel to each side of bag with wider end at bottom and top end even with marker and cast-on edge.  Note:  When sewing on ruffle, leave 1” open at center of flap for buttonhole.   Starting and ending at markers, sew shorter edge of ruffle to edge of flap, leaving 2 1/2” of ruffle unsewn at beg and end.  Tack free ends of ruffle to back seam of side panel.  With crochet hook, using 2 strands of Foliage held tog, make two 4” long chains.  Fasten off.  Fold one chain in half and sew ends to center of side panel 2” down from top edge.  Repeat with second chain on the other side panel.

Strap:  Cut two 140” long strands of Suede (or 3 1/2 times the desired finished length).  Put strands tog and fold in half.  Tie ends in a knot.  Holding the knot in your hand, slip the loop over a hook and pull tight.  Slip a pencil through the knotted end and twist until cord is so tight that it can’t be twisted further and starts to double back on itself.  Put 1 finger in center of cord and carefully fold in half, letting 2 ends of cord twist tog.  Pull ends of cord through ruffle at each side and fasten to chain loops on side panels.  Sew on button.
