MATERIALS

7(7-9-10-11) Balls BERROCO SOFTY (50 grs), #2943 Purple Passion

Straight knitting needles, size 10 1/2 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

GAUGE

16 sts = 4”;  24 rows = 4” in St st on size 10 1/2 needles

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

BACK

With straight needles, cast on 66(74-82-90-98) sts.  Work even in St st for 7”, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 4(5-6-7-8) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 58(64-70-76-82) sts.  Dec 1 st each side every RS row 5(8-9-10-11) times – 48(48-52-56-60) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 6(6-6 1/2-7-7 1/2)”, end on WS.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  K14(14-16-18-20), join another ball of yarn and bind off center 20 sts, k to end.  Working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row twice.  When armholes measure 7(7-7 1/2-8-8 1/2)”, end on WS.  Bind off 12(12-14-16-18) sts each side for shoulders.

LEFT FRONT

With straight needles, cast on 9(13-17-21-25) sts.  Work even in St st for 3 rows, end on RS.

Next Row (WS):  Cast on 3 sts, p to end – 12(16-20-24-28) sts.  Working in St st, cast on 3 sts at same edge once, 2 sts 5 times, then inc 1 st every WS row 12 times – 37(41-45-49-53) sts.  Work even until piece measures 7” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armhole:  Next Row (RS):  Bind off 4(5-6-7-8) sts, k to end – 33(36-39-42-45) sts.  Purl 1 row.  Dec 1 st at beg of the next row, then at same edge every RS row 4(7-8-9-10) times more – 28(28-30-32-34) sts.  Work even until armhole measures 7(7-7 1/2-8-8 1/2)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulder:  Bind off 12(12-14-16-18) sts, k to end – 16 sts.

Left Collar:  Beg with a p row, work even in St st until piece measures 3” above bound-off sts, end on WS.  Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 3 RS rows.  Fasten off.

RIGHT FRONT

Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping.  Cast on sts at lower edge at beg of RS rows instead of WS rows.  Bind off for armhole, shoulder and end of right collar on WS rows.

SLEEVES

With straight needles, cast on 40 sts.  Work even in St st for 8 rows, end on WS.  Inc 1 st each end of next row, then every 3(3-1 3/4-1 1/4-1)” 3(3-5-7-9) times more – 48(48-52-56-60) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 12” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Cap:  Bind off 4(5-6-7-8) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 40(38-40-42-44) sts.  Dec 1 st each end of next row, every RS row 7(5-3-3-1) times more, then every other RS row 3(4-5-5-6) times – 18(18-22-24-28) sts.  Bind off 3(3-3-2-2) sts at beg of the next 2 rows.  Bind off remaining 12(12-16-20-24) sts.

FINISHING

Sew shoulder seams.  Sew bound-off ends of left and right collar tog.  Sew inner edges of collar to back neck edge with seam at center.  Sew in sleeves.  Sew side and sleeve seams.
