RIB PATTERN (Multiple of 6 sts + 5) Row 1 (RS): P1, k3, (p3, k3) 3 times, end p1. Row 2: K1, p3, (k3, p3) 3 times, end k1. Rep these 2 rows for Rib Pat. STRIPE SEQUENCE* Working in Rib Pat, work 4 rows A, 2 rows B, 8 rows C, 4 rows D, 8 rows A, 4 rows B, 4 rows C, then 2 rows D. Rep from * for Stripe Sequence.
SCARF With straight needles, using A, cast on 23 sts. Work even in Rib Pat following, Stripe Sequence, until piece measures 72” from beg, end on WS. Bind off.
HAT With straight needles, using D, cast on 75 sts. Work even in Garter St for 5 1/2”. Shape Top: Dec Row 1 (RS): * K6, k2 tog, rep from * across, end k3 – 66 sts. Knit 1 row. Dec Row 2 (RS): * K5, k2 tog, rep from * across, end k3 – 57 sts. Knit 1 row. Dec Row 3 (RS): * K4, k2 tog, rep from * across, end k3 – 48 sts. Knit 1 row. Dec Row 4 (RS): * K3, k2 tog, rep from * across, end k3 – 39 sts. Knit 1 row. Dec Row 5 (RS): K1, * k2 tog, rep from * across – 20 sts. Break off yarn leaving an end for sewing. Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needle. Pull up tightly and secure, then sew back seam. |
