FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Approximately 20” around x  9” high (after pleating back edge)

MATERIALS
3 Balls LANG LANALUX (25 grs), #0017
Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 (4.00 mm) and 8 (5.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
Tapestry needle

GAUGE
20 sts = 4”; 26 rows = 4” in St st on larger needlesTO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

HAT
Upper Section:  With larger needles, cast on 51 sts.  Work even in St st for 22”, end on WS.  Bind off. 
Lower Band:  With RS facing, using smaller needles, pick up and k122 sts along one edge of upper section.
Ribbing:  Row 1 (WS):  P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across.
Row 2:  K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows 4 times more, decreasing 24 sts across last row – 98 sts.  Work even in k1, p1, ribbing for 6 rows, end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing.

FINISHING

Cut a 24” long strand of yarn and thread into tapestry needle.  Fold the top edge of upper section into a T shape and sew together.  Using tapestry needle, sew point of T together using 10 overcast sts worked closely together.  Sew back seam together.  Make 3 pleats along back seam, gathering back of hat.  Bring point of T formed by back seam down to seam and tack in place.
